Vikings intent on bringing back C.Taylor

NFL.com - The Vikings are intent of bringing back running back Chester Taylor.

Minnesota vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman said it's the team's "goal and intent" to re-sign the unrestricted free agent.

"Chester Taylor brings so much to this football team," Spielman said. "He's like the unsung hero of the offense."

I would love him to be back but he could make a #1 running back easily

The Vikings need him. He's a workhorse - and one injury away from being the premier back on the offense.

Bringing him back is a much better scenario than having to cheer for his projected replacement - former hawkeye Albert Young.

They definitely need Chester back. He is a great 3rd down back. If they didn't have Perterson he would be a very good #1 back.

I think AP showed he can catch out of the backfield this year. I love Taylor, but is he worth what it's going to cost to keep him for what he does?
I wish they would have traded him when they could have and got something out of it.

Beat writer Judd Zulgad suggests the Vikings could be interested in Brian Westbrook if Chester Taylor departs via free agency.

It may be the most obvious fit at this stage of Westbrook's career. He's familiar with Brad Childress' offense after their time together in Philly from 2002-05. It would also give Westbrook a chance to play for a contender while filling Taylor's third-down role behind Adrian Peterson.

I could definitely deal with that

Re: Vikings intent on bringing back C.Taylor

I'd love him back as well, but the Vikes have to be careful as too not give up too much for Taylor. Afterall, the Vikings have leverage as well (i.e...Chester, if Favre comes back, you have a great chance to play in the Super Bowl next year).

Taylor is a luxury at this point, not a necessity and the Vikes have greater needs that must be addressed.

I think we should do a sign and trade deal with Chester. Sign him and trade him to San Diego for Antonio Cromartie. Then we go get a backup in free agency like westbrook or LT. Just my opinion.

Re: Vikings intent on bringing back C.Taylor

I'm going to ruin some cherrios here. I don't understand the fascination with re-signing running backs over the age of 27. They can get a complimentary back at a much cheaper price through the draft. It has proven as a failure more than a success.

LOL. You're not going to get Cromartie for a 30+ year old running back. If San Diego does deal him for a RB, it will be for a young guy with promise (Choice of Dallas for instance) or a high draft pick to select a RB.
