    Where's Bill?

Wild Bill, that is. Last year there was much discussion about his retirement and his replacement. I've seen nothing this year. Now, Nebraska is claiming to have the "best women's basketball fan in country" This is an intolerable affront by those Cornhusker upstarts - another incentive to "git-r-done" Wednesday night.

I know Bill said he was for sure done, and we can leave speculation as to why for another day, but what happened to the Bill Jr. he was training?

Interesting that the story is in a Missouri paper.

Pretty sure Wild Bill and his wife still live here in Ames in a retirement community.

I've seen the Bill around Ames. I think he drives a Ranger sized truck and the plates are something to the tune of saying wild Bill on them so I know he has to be getting out frequently.

That's too bad if they had to move to a retirement community. Their house was in a prime location for tailgating.

Nebraska might have best women's basketball fan in country - Columbia Missourian

Nebraska fans are the biggest bunch of front runners ever! I have lived here 5 years and never heard anyone mentioned they even had a women's basketball team prior to this year - all be it a very good year they are having. For the local news media it is a good thing, as they need to fill print and air time with something to make up for all the coverage that was devoted the wresteling and baseball these last few years. It seems they have dropped both programs. A couple of years ago that is all they talked about. Both programs being dropped as victims of Title IX is the only logical explination that neither of them have any media coverage currently.

I certainly understand the winning brings the crowd arguement, but take a look at there season attendance figures. If they have 20 home games this year they may average 6k for the season. 1k/game for the first 10 - 11k/game for the last ten.

What is even more unsufferable is the smack talk they bring. I was with a bunch of them that I work with last week and the talk got around to how excited they were to play UConn as they felt they matched up well. I chuckled and asked them why they felt that way and if they had any clue on how good UConn was. Predictably they didn't.

Furthermore they went on to talk about how great they were going to be in the future and that the "COACH" was building a program. In response I asked them what they thought of Connie Yori, and to a man they answer was "who is Connie Yori." I am by no means a "big fan" of WBB, but at least I know enough of who most of the Big XII coaches are and that Nebraska is a Sr. ladden team this year. And there is nothing in Connie Yori's background that leads me to believe that the magic in the bottle this year is sustainable.

Fortunetaly when I had checkmated them on the WBB smack as good little programmed robots they started talking about FB. For a moment they had forgotten about Oct 24, 2009 and started spewing the company line. 9-7!

PS Wild Bill will always be the GREATEST FAN in WBB history, not some punk kid from Lincoln!

I just read the article. I really hope we shut them up on Wednesday. Passing off bandwagoners as a great fanbase when a consistent, true Top 5 fanbase is in both Nebraska and Mizzou's backyards? Ridiculous.

    Re: Where's Bill?

Back in college we took about 6 bus loads of fans to NE for the women's game. We showed up and were shocked that they apparently sold out against ISU. Found out that State Farm had bought and gave away 10,000 tickets. BF was asked about this, he said he called his agent to see if his rates were going up because of it. Then went on to say we'd never do this at ISU because our fans will actually pay and show up to watch our women play and that we don't need ticket giveaways to get fans to the games.

    I hope we stomp them.

I will keep my thoughts on Wild Bill to myself because I know most of you think highly of him.

    Re: Where's Bill?

My purpose was to see if anyone has stepped up to be THE recognizable WBB fan. Despite an heir apparent last year, I gather that hasn't happened yet.

Actually ISU is #3 in the nation in attendance this season. Directly behind UCONN & Tennessee. Not bad company for lil' old Iowa State.

How do you think they have had 300+ consecutive sellouts for football? In your story lies the answer.

I don't get the fascination with this Wild Bill guy. I don't think the program needs some goof as the face of our fans. I talked to him a bit during the NCAAs and didn't find him to be a very friendly guy.
