    New AP Poll is out

ISU moved all the way up to #13 in the AP Poll this week! Biggest jump of anybody. The Baylor drubbing got media attention. I'm still befuddled that OU and Texas are ranked higher since we beat them.

    Cyclones #13 in new poll

NCAA College Basketball Polls, College Basketball Rankings, NCAA Basketball Polls - ESPN

UConn, Stanford, Tenn, Neb, Notre Dame, maybe Ohio St, are looking for #1 seeds. Right now, you could probably put the rest of the ranked teams in a hat and just pull out a name to fill in the 2 through 7 seeds.

And Texas A&M is behind us, and they beat us. But, I do understand that there is much more to it than just head-to-head games.

What did Tejas's non-conference look like? I'd imagine they have some quality wins that are lacking from our admittedly cupcake schedule.

Without taking anything away from the Longhorn team, IMHO their ranking is likely due to the fact that they are Texas & the perception is "since they are UT, they must be one of the top teams in America." I have to believe that university prestige has some influence on the non-coach's poll rankings.

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

Tejas has non-conference wins against Rutgers, Mississippi, Mississippi State, and Miami, and non-conf losses against UConn and Tennessee. So that strength of schedule has kept them afloat through the bumps in the Big 12.

Not to play what-ifs, but if ISU hadn't lost to Drake and Kansas State (unranked teams) we'd definitely be in the Top 10 right now.

I think that could have something to do with it. Games against UConn and at Tennessee could also have something to do with it.

Unfortunately you don't even have to be close - you get rewarded for just scheduling them. I'm sure the sisters would have two more losses if they had played these two teams earlier in the season...

I'm of the mind that the Drake loss saved us from a nastier loss down the road.

I think it is less because it is Texas and more because it is Gail G.

More power to them - the more highly they are regarded, the better for us come seeding time. Polls are curious blends of perceptions. The UT games against Tenn and UConn are pluses in many eyes, even though they lost. Their RPI/SOS is 8/4 compared to ours at 24/72. Their losses to Nebraska and ISU don't hurt as much as our losses to Drake and KSU. We had a light non-conference to accomodate our frosh - a weak SOS is a consequence. That is an investment which seems to be paying off.

Re: New AP Poll is out

plus 6 or 7 of the next 10 teams in front of us lost last week, wish we would have just jumped them because the media realized we were better, guess not since TX is still in front of us.
