Los Angeles expects NFL team by 2011

Boston Globe - Behind the efforts of Ed Roski and Majestic Realty, and with their “shovel-ready’’ proposed $800 million stadium in the City of Industry, Los Angeles leaders are resolute that they are closing in on a team.

“I strongly believe an NFL franchise will play in Los Angeles for the 2011 season,’’ said Majestic vice president John Semcken. “I’ve been working on this for 14 years, and it’s been a long road. I know we’re very, very close.’’

A team would play for two seasons in another stadium, either the Rose Bowl or Coliseum.

Thoughts and who would it be?

I'm really hoping that the NFL doesn't go the expansion route - 32 teams is a very balanced league - 4 divisions per conference with 4 teams/division.

Will be Rams, Vikes, or Jags. Maybe Al Davis will give it another try?

Raiders and Chargers were also an option. Jags make the most sense to me since they can only draw 40k for the NFL. We could get that in DSM easily.

Given the new local buyer, I doubt the Rams will go anywhere.

Too bad Des Moines couldn't get a Green Bay style franchise... smallest city in the NFL by far, yet that would be one of the last franchises to move - impossible actually.

I think it's Jacksonville. I mean, why would you move any other franchise before it?

You want ISU to compete for support with an NFL team 30 minutes away?

No, but it would be cool to have a small market franchise like GB's. It will never happen though

Re: Los Angeles expects NFL team by 2011

Last I heard, Jacksonville had a horrible escape clause on their stadium contract. It would be cost prohibitive to move them, even though they don't draw worth a darn. The Chargers are free to go after next year with a very minimal payment. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a bad feeling it's going to be the Chargers. Oh well, if we don't spend a billion dollars on a stadium maybe we can fix a few potholes around town.

If the Chargers move you won't have to switch any divisons. But that would be an interesting move

Raiders in LA - been there, done that - do you really think LA would deal with Al Davis again? It took years to settle the lawsuits the last time.
