Tom Osborne: "We'd listen if called"

Looks like Nebby would like out of the Big 12 as well....Osborne sounds like he wants to talk to Delany about Big 10 expansion.

Re: Tom Osborne: "We'd listen if called"

Ya well Nebraska has never been to excited about being in the conference. Does anyone remember that they refused to join in they had to play Texas and Oklahoma in the same year? So instead we get screwed. Nebraska has never lived by the philosophy of playing teams anywhere at anytime. More like we would rather play in the Sun Belt and then complain....

There shouldn't be a team in the nation who wouldn't want to be in the Big 10. They should have people lining up. Every school in the Big 10 makes more money than Texas does in the Big 12.

JP needs to be on the phone with Osborne and Missouri's AD today working out a package deal.

Re: Tom Osborne: "We'd listen if called"

This is correct. I don't believe we can be reactive to this. With the Pac 10 and the Big 10 both looking to expand, and more then likely poaching Big 12 teams, we do not want to be left reacting to the shakeup. We need to find out if there are viable options to be one of the teams making other teams react to our move.

Re: Tom Osborne: "We'd listen if called"

All this Big10 flirtation is not looking good for the Big12. It's now confirmed that there is some level of interest for Texas, Missouri, and Nebraska to join the Big10. Doesn't look like ISU is the only Big12 school that doesn't like the Big12.

Typical Tom. This would mean Iowa would have to beat Nebraska for their division.

IF isu is trying to get on this too, would it make sense that we might not hear much since JP might have connections in the big 10 already?

If Pollard has not at least given Delany a call I will loose all faith in him. I guarantee you the two have discussed the issue to some extent. With that being said, Id be absolutely shocked if ISU got invited.

Re: Tom Osborne: "We'd listen if called"

Any school in the Big 12 north would have a lot to gain by joining the Big 10. The problem is the Big 10 has nothing to gain by taking in ISU.
Nebraska probably wants in so they exchange getting hammered by Texas, Okie and TT for just getting hammered by Ohio st.

I actually think this could work out better for all conferences, including the Big 12.

Re: Tom Osborne: "We'd listen if called"

Co$$ege At$etics - the rich get richer and the rest are just pawns in the ESPN/TV/Money game. If the power teams leave the conference, it puts ISU at a huge disadvantage to in state rival Iowa in recruiting and ability to compete. The big 10 would likely see it as they already have the Iowa Market and with ISU in a lesser conference - Iowa's dominance in the state for fans may only grow - where does this leave ISU?

I would envision all of the not chosen from the big 12 getting together to form their own super conference of secondary media markets and look to draw in some of the secondary media market schools from other Conferences. May not be ESPN material, but maybe Fox Sports could build their network around this new conference and provide the fans in that conference more coverage than we get now in the big 12. Not everyone will be interested in watching the new super conferences, we will just have to find a way to align ourselves with the lesser tv market schools and build our own product to serve those of us that could care less about the ESPN Hype machine.

Re: Tom Osborne: "We'd listen if called"

Believe it or not, Nebraska would actually not be a very good choice for the Big Ten as a twelfth team. They bring nothing academically (if they joined, they would be the lowest rated school academically), they bring very few TV sets (Nebraska has no real major TV markets), and they aren't much of an addition athletically outside of the "Nebraska brand name", Nebraska football isn't what it was 15 years ago (they are good at Volleyball and Baseball, but neither of those sports pay the bills - you have to be good at football and basketball to turn big athletic profits).

I think they could be an option if the Big Ten looks to upgrade to 14 teams, but I highly doubt Nebraska would get the invite if the Big Ten is only going to 12.
