    NBA trade deadline

The Mavericks appear to have agreed on the major points of a trade that will send Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, Quinton Ross and James Singleton to Washington for Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson.
The deal is not completely done, but a source said that the pieces of the trade have been tentatively agreed upon.

Thoughts on Cuban making this trade?

    Re: NBA trade deadline

You get rid of Howard, who's a terrible teammate. Add Caron Butler who can easily replace him both on and off the court. Add in Haywood to the deal to take minutes from Dampier, who hasn't played well this season. Stevenson plays good playoff minutes. They HAD to trade Howard IMO, and this fills some holes for them without giving up too much.

Drew Gooden hasn't lived up to his billing. Good trade for Dallas.

Wow Washington is cleaning house. Great trade for the Mavs. Haywood is unstoppable when he wants to be, Stevenson can score 40 points in a matter of two minutes if hes hot, and Butler is a defensive upgrade and a locker room upgrade over Howard. I would definatley call the Mavs a contender in the West.

    Gotta make LeBron happy so
When presented with several trade proposals, LeBron James preferred Amare Stoudemire, a league source said.
ESPN reported on Saturday morning that Phoenix is absolutely looking for talent in return for Stoudemire and is not considering this a salary dump.
The Suns will almost certainly demand J.J. Hickson and a first round pick in return for Stoudemire.
Stoudemire privately would prefer to be dealt to Miami, his home state.

    Re: NBA trade deadline

There are rumors that the Mavericks may not be done making moves yet, as a Rip Hamilton for Erick Dampier trade seems to make perfect sense.

The Mavericks still have a hole at shooting guard, while the Pistons have too many, and Dampier is still worth of starting at center for the Pistons. It's far from being a done deal, but the move would seem to make sense for both teams.

    Re: NBA trade deadline

Trade talks involving Amare Stoudemire have heated up between the Suns and Cavaliers -- one hangup is the Suns insistence that Jason Richardson (and his huge contract) be included in any deal.

The Cavs would likely give up Zydrunas Ilgauskas, J.J. Hickson and possibly Wally Szczerbiak, whose "Bird rights" are still owned by Cleveland. Phoenix may even be willing to buy out Ilgauskas, thus allowing him to return to the Cavs in 30 days. Such a deal could push them over the edge in their pursuit of a championship, but there's no guarantee the Shaq & Amare pairing will succeed -- it failed in Phoenix, after all

    Re: NBA trade deadline

While Boston lost out on Caron Butler, they also have inquired about the availability of Monta Ellis, Kevin Martin and Andre Iguodala.
None of the talks have become substantive at this point.
The Celtics would include Ray Allen in any trade of this magnitude.
Boston has also spoken to Phoenix about Amare Stoudemire, but they won't have a package that could entice Steve Kerr.

The Washington Post is reporting that the Bobcats contacted the Wizards about a trade involving Andray Blatche and D.J. Augustin.
The Post, which cited two sources, says Charlotte reached out to Washington, but the conversation didn't go very far.

Why would the celts want Stoudemire? He plays the 4 and they seem to have that filled in KG. What am I missing there?

    Re: NBA trade deadline

I'm curious to see if the Bulls can make some moves. They want to trade Hinrich to free up money, same in a sense for their malcontent Tyrus Thomas who would take up $6.2 mil if offered a qualifying offer as a restricted free agent. John Salmons has a player option and is another guy that could save them money and they have Brad Miller's expiring contract that could net them someone of value for this season still possibly too. The Bulls have Rose, Deng, and Noah to build around and signing 2 big free agents to go with them would put them right in the hunt for the East I think.

    Re: NBA trade deadline

The Bulls are preparing to trade forward Tyrus Thomas prior to Thursday's deadline and the Timberwolves could be a sleeper to land the former LSU star.
Minnesota general manager David Kahn has been researching Thomas and the team has a boatload of assets to use to acquire him.
They have three first-round picks and a host of expiring contracts.

I think it's a great move, Caron Butler is a flipping stud. I still don't see them doing much more in the playoffs however.
