Has Pollard said Anything at all?

I don't want to start another thread ripping GMAC, but I am just wondering if Pollard has made any form of public statement recently about the basketball program. Was there a "vote of confidence" or anything? Or has he just kept his mouth completely shut?

No and it's best he doesn't regardless of how he feels or his position on the future of the program. It would become a distraction even if he said he supports the coach and the team.

Nothing. I don't think he needs to unless he announces a staff change, which will not be happening.

JP is on record numerous times supporting GMac and acknowledging the mess we're in.

The dreaded "vote of confidence" is unnecessary. Pollard is smart enough to keep his mouth shut right now.

I think he might have given Mac another extension when Lucca left. Maybe mentioned something about next year being Year 1.

JP's silence has been very noticeable. Last season he was vocal with his support of Greg, not so much this season. Even if Jamie is planning on giving Greg one more season, surely he is beginning to position himself to make a coaching change eventually, if needed.

Re: Has Pollard said Anything at all?

I was thinking about this the other day. JP would always be on KXNO all the time in the last couple years supporting Greg and the program, saying how last year was his first year, etc.

Crickets this winter. I'm not sure what to make of that. I'm sure Pollard is as disappointed as many of us are.

good point. You'd think that if you were in the "Fire G-Mac" crowd, you wouldn't want JP to be saying anything at all. Of course he's not going to come out and say anything negative about the coach in mid season, but he might speak out in support of him. The fact that he's not is probably a little bit of a hint as to what's going on in his head.

I guess I had hoped that the silence meant he was on the road and looking for a new coach.

Thats what I was thinking. I just wondered if I had missed him appearing on KXNO lately or something.

I don't think it necessarily means he is actually looking for a new coach now. I think he is just posturing for the possibility in the future.

Re: Has Pollard said Anything at all?

JP has really shunned KXNO. I think it all can be traced back to the Marty debacle when he tried to go after him and royally upset JP. I think that plus KXNO's continued support of Marty while he ripped ISU ended any cordial relationship.

This. I trust JP to have a plan in place if it didn't work out. You always have a plan B.

Re: Has Pollard said Anything at all?

I've posted the same thing before:

If JP wants to keep McD: he needs to issue a public vote of confidence: why he believes in him, why the team hasn't been winning, why there are so many turn overs, what his expectations are. He has to explain to the fans. There have been so many divisions among the fans and some of JP's decisions now are questioned repeatedly: WM firing, McD's extension, etc. He has to explain why those decisions were made.

This reminds me of the last days of Dan McCarney. The difference: JP didn't hire McCarney, so it was easier to pull the trigger.

Saying that GMac will be gone right now will destroy the team, but not supporting GMac right now will cause unrest too. Supporting him without clearly-defined expectations and explanation will make him appear ignorant of the fans' concerns but he has to make sure that the expectations are reasonable. I understand there might be some things are confidential but that's his job, that's why he's paid a lot of money to handle certain things. It's a no-win situation

So staying mum right now might be the best stance for JP.
