    UFC

So I watched a lot of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Challenge marathon yesterday and just could not get enough of it. I've watched before, but I really was hooked yesterday. The fact that its not just boxing, but includes juditsu and grappling is amazing. Now I get bored when I just watch regular boxing. I am just curious to see if anyone else in Iowa cares about this sport?

    Re: UFC

I enjoy watching every now and then specially since I am a person who is into martial arts. And I agree it is alot more fun to watch then wrestling or boxing. But I am not a person who goes out of the way to watch it that much.

    Re: UFC

Not a fan here. It looks to me to be nothing more then a barfight with a few extra moves. What I've seen tells me you can really get hurt out there......intentionally by the other fighter. No thanks

And then I watch the news interview of one of the famous ones on to promote the movie 300 and pretty much see the affects it has had on him. I know someone says that it was because he took Vicks to help with a stuffy head, but if he had functioning brain cells, he would have known to read the directions to take 1 oz instead of downing the bottle.

Of course that is my opinion, I know it is growing in popularity so I might be in the minority.

I have HD-net on Directv. HD-Net has this Friday night thing they show called WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting). I think it is a level down or two from UFC, but I find the fights to be much more exciting than the UFC stuff. These guys are trying to make the big time and they go all out.

    Re: UFC

My first time seeing it, I thought it was barbaric. Then when you watch more and more oyu realize how its so technical and there has to be a game plan for each fight.

    Re: UFC

I'm not in Iowa but here's my useless opinion..... When I have watched it, 90% of the time, within 45 seconds, the fight ends up with a guy on top of the other, in some type of submission hold, and pounds his fists off the other dudes cranium and grill. It is very rare that you see a 1-punch or kick KO, but the montage promos make it seem that way. In addition, now that it has gotten popular, the pre-fight hype/crap is just ridiculous, one meathead saying how he's gonna destroy the other meathead, or when it's a rematch, the loser usually spouting off how the other guy got lucky blah blah blah....

it's jujitsu by the way.... or judo...

cytech- what style do you study?

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

I thought it was funny when they had Dana White (CEO of UFC) on there talking about how it is going to overtake boxing completely as a sport. It is already getting more pay per view purchases.

Dana White is actaully a very crafty businessman. His decision to go to Spike TV has paid millions for him.

It's dominating boxing now. The Next Oscar fight will probably do more PPV buys because he is fighting another big name but UFC is awesome. Can't get enough.

    Re: UFC

I've watched it a couple times and am not a huge fan. It's entertaining to watch cause it's not you out there getting the snot kicked out of you. But it's painful for me to watch, cause it ALWAYS amounts with someone getting the living crap kicked out of them. In boxing you will occasionally see a broken nose, but that is about it, save for a Mike Tyson ear biting episode. With wrestling, there are seldom wrestlers getting seriously hurt. But in the UFC, the loser always ends up in a world of pain. It just seems cruel and barbaric, as someone else said. I find it really hard to watch and not feel like it's somehow wrong. Everytime I see it I feel like I'm watching a human cockfighting match.

    Re: UFC

To me its not really cruel and barbaric since both parties are consenting the fight.

What if I wanted to start a reality series where we had a shootout during every episode and the contestants agreed to do it knowing that they would probably be shot and killed. They consented to it, but it still is cruel.

I know this is a very extreme example, I guess to me it just seems wrong.

This could also be because I'm a pansy and would not do very well fighting people for a living.

    Re: UFC

I have really liked the UFC fights that I have seen so far. I hope they don't overhype the prefight, like boxing does. What they do right is put together matchups that people want to see. No dodging people all the time. And overall, I don't mind seeing people beat the crap out of each other when they get up and show good sportsmanship and class after the fight is over.
