New 1-day snow record in DFW

Over 9" at DFW so far, and it is still snowing. And this is wet, wet, heavy snow. Some light structures are starting to collapse.

Branches are starting to come down now in my neighborhood, and there have been a couple of power flashes. Apartment carports are coming down left and right...

You probably get a snow day tomorrow. Does Texas even have snow plows?

Attached is a creation today from the DFW snow. There was nothing else better to do when you get sent home from work. I just laughed at the fact I got sent home for a little dusting compared to the stuff I'm used to seeing in Iowa and from this year's snow up there. Flying by everyone at 55 mph when everyone else is going 30 is great knowing I can handle it, and they're petrified. It's priceless.

It will stink tomorrow morning when all this slush freezes hard tonight and there are huge ruts everywhere on the residential streets.

Me and the F-250 will be fine. I'll have to pack my tow strap, because I'm sure somebody will need a tow...

Also, lots of snowmen showing up...which is kind of nice to see...

Re: New 1-day snow record in DFW

I knew it was bad because my wife and I were scheduled to fly to DFW this afternoon; when we got to DSM, we discovered our flight was delayed; then delayed again; and finally cancelled. The other two flights to DFW were also cancelled. Problem was compounded because the desk folks who did the rebooking were telling many people that it would be Sat. at the earliest before they could put people through DFW! Boy, when everyone was told that, there was a long, loud groan. No one wanted to fly to Florida by way of Guam.

Re: New 1-day snow record in DFW

Funny - I had a friend/co-worker/same-church-attender/fellow Cyclone who moved to Texas last year to get AWAY from this weather. I'm going to have to leave her a little bit of a note that includes...

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Make fun of her all you want....I'll take this 36 hour hiccup over the 3 months of hell in Iowa. Most of the 9" will be melted by tomorrow evening.

Over 12" at DFW now, and the snow has stopped. Nice to have light traffic on the way to work this morning...

    Incredible.

This is going to be a winter that alot of us won't forget anytime soon. Saw this on the Drudge Report this morning. I'm not sure about snow in Hawaii, but interesting none the less:

OU Student Collecting Pictures of Snow in All 50 States - NewsOn6.com - Tulsa, OK - News, Weather, Video and Sports - KOTV.com |

A University of Oklahoma student is taking an extra interest in this week's snow storms in the south and northeast and is working to document the events in a very unique way.

Patrick Marsh said it's likely by the end of the week snow will be on the ground in all 50 states.

From Ardmore all the way to Dallas and even in Louisiana, the south is snowed in. For many, it's a winter wonderland in places that rarely see such weather. But none of it comes close to the mess up north where two blizzards have blown through in a week.

Marsh, a student employee at the NOAA's National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, is currently trying to collect photos of snow on the ground in all 50 states.
