    GSB votes to lease Varsity Theatre for $365,000

    Sounds like a novel idea, but wonder if the majority of ISU students are behind such an expenditure?

    So what are they going to do with it? I've heard several options for it, but haven't ever heard anything concrete.

    I wouldn't have been for them spending that much on it as a student, at the same time though if they weren't funding this lease it would be going to something I supported even less instead of not being spent and lowering tuition.

    They're going to renovate it and play second-run movies with low admission prices ($1) for ISU students, and low concession prices as well.

    The rec thing had to be voted on by students because it increased fees for students. I assume this money is being taken out of GSB's already allocated Budget. Since cost to the student aren't going up just being allocated GSB doesn't need a passing vote from the student body. They did do surveys on it a semester or two ago though.

    How much money does GSB budget each year? Why couldn't they just screen the movies in the MU? It just seems like a terrible idea to me.

    If they run it like a legitimate theater though, and not a SubFilms type thing, maybe they think they can make money off of it. Look how many students already go out to the mall for the cheap movies.

    Yeah, same here. The best time I had there was when they had Spaceballs on the big screen a few years back. I love that movie!

    never mind then. Are they dropping the MU movies/Free Friday Flicks then? If they eliminate the money given to those programs maybe it evens out more?

    Only in government do you spend $365k during a budget crunch so that you can realize a $60k annual operating loss.
