Wow we did not make the NCAA or NIT in one year with Wayne which contributed to his firing, but clearly not the only reason. What could be said for not making any post season tournaments for 4 years under Greg who also clearly has other reasons. Just saying...

"Of course I was blindsided. I didn't expect to be terminated," Morgan said. "When was the last time you heard someone get to the NIT final four in his first year, the second round of the NCAA tournament his second year, (average) 18 wins a year and get terminated?"

If this doesn't set the bar for expectaions, you will eventually get the clap b/c you have no standards.

Morgan's teams were big time underacheivers.

They may have been some games, but they won most of the games they should have, and upset some good teams.

    Re: Just Wondering...

It wasn't just his teams performance, in fact, I think the team performance was the less critical factor in his firing.

It had to do with the D1 Scheduling fiasco (or whatever it was, if someone can expound upon that) and some other NCAA violation death-hammeresque things that were apparently happening according to some people, and it wasn't going to be good if Morgan stuck around. Something like that anyways, someone who has some time can correct me.

It's a big reason why McDermott had a HUGE hole to climb out of with this program, and is still struggling with. And it's why he's been given extra lenience for team performance. Those effects are starting to wear off now that McDermott has "his" program more firmly established, but bad luck is not helping McDermott bring the program back yet. We need stability right now, at least for another year.

"CBS Sportsline.com reported that Iowa State appeared to be the centerpiece of the operation, and that under Morgan, ISU used D1 Scheduling to arrange guarantee games only when the other school also recruited LACC players."

If we were smack dab in the middle of this why did it seem to vanish away.

Other problems included letting players drive home themselves from road games. Practices that were run by the players. Apparently, Gary Thompson sat in on some practices and was appalled at what was going on.

We were the ones getting games from lower tier schools. We were basically the $$ behind the shady dealing D1 was doing. Schools were letting D1 skim huge percentages off what ISU was paying, and then getting players steered their way from a JUCO in California. There was one example that ISU paid $40k for scheduling a game against a small school in Tennesee, but school was only paid $10k and D1 kept $30k.

ISU was the center of the hub since we were the big school that was paying the $$. But I think it was investigated and found we had no knowledge that these little schools had side deals with D1.

    Re: Just Wondering...

Did you all skip over the part about the recruiting scam? That is the reason Morgan sells satellites now. Isn't it odd to some of you that this "great" coach hasn't received any other coaching offers? He screwed up so bad he had to leave the profession.

    Re: Just Wondering...

Reading that article makes me a little upset. I think the whole D1 scheduling thing was BS and Morgan got a bad rap for that. (please correct me if you have evidence otherwise) Then to say the perfomance of Morgan wasn't up to Par when we made NIT and NCAA, yet seem to give the current coach pass after pass doesn't seem right.
Morgans teams would drive me nuts quite a bit and he was no savior, I and like a lot of things about Coach Mac, but something doesn't add up.

    Re: Just Wondering...

D1 Scheduling was an absolute farce and the more we learned about it the more it became apparent that was the case.

Kelvin Sampson leaving OU didn't save them from sanctions. There have been rumors of some shady dealings but nobody has ever articulated them.
