    $20 hotel tip trick

Las Vegas Hotels: How To Get Hotel Room Upgrades

I tried this last time I was in Vegas and it worked. Slipped the $20 between my ID and CC and she just slipped it right into her pocket and said "what are you looking for?". Ended up getting an upgraded room with a nice view. Friends with us didn't try it.

BTW-Has anyone stayed at the new Vdara hotel in Vegas? Heading there in a week.

Also, I've been to LV a lot but I've never signed up for a players club type card. Are they worth it? Any suggestions?

Yes they are worth it if you commit to doing all of your gambling where the card can be used. You can also use them when you eat in resturaunts, etc.

DEFINITELY worth it. Even if you aren't a big gambler and don't get a lot of player points/comps, hotels will still throw deals at you just for having a card.

I go about 1-2 times per year and haven't paid to stay in a hotel the last 3 times. The economy is so bad, the hotels will do about anything to get you there. Even my buddy who only went once with us go several offers for 2 free nights with other nights discounted from places like NY-NY, Luxor, Monte Carlo. So I would definitely recommend the MGM players club card which is good at about a dozen properties.

Hmm, we've been thinking of doing Vegas for our honeymoon in August. Might have to try this.

If you love your wife, you won't go to Vegas in August. The pools are temperature controlled during that time but they still feel like bath water because of the heat. Its pretty much a 5 minute sunburn even if you are from Kenya...

My wife and I are headed to Vegas for the first time next week as well. We will be there Thurs-Mon.

I will have to try the sandwich trick to see about upgrades and I will update when I get back.

    Thanks for the advice!

    Re: $20 hotel tip trick

If you are going to play alot of poker out there, call ahead to the casino or the poker room and ask for a poker room rate. They require you to play between 4-6 hours of poker in order to qualify for this rate but if you have a buddy or two with you that plays, you can split the time up between the three of you. We stayed at the Wynn for $129 ($70 off) for each night we were out there. Pretty much any hotel with a poker room will do this for you but you have to ask and kind of be a jerk about it.

I probably shouldn't have tried this trick with my doctor during my proctology exam. Not an upgrade at all.

Hmm...didn't think of this. Wouldn't you basically run into that kind of heat at any typical honeymoon destination in early August?

No, the desert is worse than the tropics this time of year.

    Tropical destination is 80 degrees
Vegas is anywhere from 105-115 and I don't care what anybody says in regards to humidity and what not but 115 degrees with a 2 mile per hour wind (at best) is miserable...

No. Lots of year-round warm places don't ever get 110+. Google any place you are interested in and you can easily find average temps for any date.
