Could Chris Berman be leaving ESPN?

To borrow a well-worn phrase, could Chris Berman be heading ALL ... THE ... WAY out of Bristol?

Online reports say the ESPN commentator is drawing major interest from NFL Network and DirecTV. The Big Lead reports NFLN is "putting the full court press" on Berman; Sports by Brooks reports DirecTV is in "full pursuit."

Berman's contract expires May 10, his 55th birthday, TBL reports.

A source tells Brooks that Berman would host pre- and postgame shows around DirecTV's Red Zone Channel coverage of the NFL. He also would team up with former ESPN colleague Dan Patrick to form the nucleus of a startup satellite sports channel.

TBL reports that Berman's role with NFLN is unclear, but adds that he and Steve Bornstein, the network's president, have remained close after working together at ESPN in the 1980s

One of the few ESPN personalities I like.

I can't believe Berman is only 55. The dude just seems older than that to me.

I hope he leaves broadcasting for good. It is agonizing having to listen to him.

This would suck. If this happens move Rich Eisen in from NFL Network. Dude is funny

no doubt. His schtick has gotten really old. If there is any way that he could get a job where we don't have to see or hear him, I would be all for that.

Re: Could Chris Berman be leaving ESPN?

Yea Boomer has kind of gotten old, I'd like to see him stay of ESPN because then I could easily avoid him because I never watch ESPN. It's become this annoying hybrid of the "E" channel and talk radio. This network is doing to sports what MTV did to music. Please wake up to this people!!

Re: Could Chris Berman be leaving ESPN?

Berman has been played out for ten years at least. The guy is a solid commentator but as stated before his schtick is so old. Jake "day light come make you wanna" Delhomme, Curtis my favorite Martin, all those damn names are annoying. It's funny the first time you hear it but when he pounds the damn things into your head every time he talks about those people. If he went to NFL Network I'd be pretty happy.

Re: Could Chris Berman be leaving ESPN?

His shtick may be a little old, but the guy helped start ESPN. Those guys who started that network slept in the backroom and did it all by themselves, till they sold out to ABC and got rich.
