I wonder why the PAC 10 would want Colorado? If Colorado went away, I'd like us to take Colorado State rather than BYU.

    Re: Pac-10 Expansion rumors....Colorado?

I found the comment more interesting.

When you think about it, ISU fits very well into a 16 team Big 10, especially if Mizzou and Nebby go. We wouldn't make a 12 or 14 team expansion, but we could make 16.

The thing is, with a 16 team conference, would you EVER play out of division teams?

    Big 16 West:
    Nebraska
    Iowa
    Missouri
    ISU
    Minnesota
    Wisconsin
    Illinois
    Northwestern

    Big 16 East:
    Indiana
    Purdue
    Michigan
    Michigan State
    Ohio State
    Pitt
    Penn State
    Syracuse

A 16 team conference would be crazy. You'd play the teams from out of your division what, every 8 years?

I don't see how you can call it a conference, really. It's basically two conferences that have a championship game between them.

I agree, but that's what a 16 team Big 10 would look like.

I don't actually think 16 teams will happen, but I'm just playing the what if game, figuring out what it would look like and how it would work.

If you ask me, 12 is a great number for football.

If they ever did that I think you would have to eliminate non-conference games for them.

Then you could do 7 division games, 1 natural recurring rivalry, and 4 cross division games that rotate every two years.

I think that BYU is the bigger school with the bigger following. BUT, if CU were to bolt, I think that the conference would have to do everything possible to keep the Denver market.

If the Big XII commissioner is not seriously exploring expansion, he is the biggest idiot alive. It's going to happen...just a matter of when. The Big XII better be ready for it or they'll get left behind. My preference would be to beat the Big 11 and Pac-10 to the punch. Solidify the conference to it make it hard for other conferences to poach our teams. And expand the TV market in the process. I'd go HARD after Arkansas for the South and then grab a new TV market by inviting LA Tech. Then, for the North, grab BYU and Utah. Or get even crazier and go BYU and New Mexico (another big TV market). With that kind of footprint, the commish could throw his weight around more with the networks plus start up his own conference network.

It seems more logical to me that they would add BYU with Utah, not CU.

Whoa, sixteen teams? That seems like too many, like two conferences (as stated previously).

You could be right, but does the Big 12 really want that? It doesn't add a new TV market. And I'd be curious to know what the other Texas schools would think about it when it comes to recruiting. The Longhorns probably wouldn't care, but TCU in a big conference, would increase the attractiveness to an already successful school, and possibly hurt the likes of A&M, Tech, and Baylor when it comes to drawing in Texas recruits.

Who knows? Maybe it wouldn't matter to them.

TCU brings nothing to the table. The only, and I mean only thing that matters in all of this is TV sets. TCU would not bring any TV sets. They are maybe the 5th or 6th team just in the state of Texas.
