Pererson gets in a dig at DG

    From his Rag blog:

"Ending droughts like that starts with having a point guard who not only can pass, but who also can shoot from the perimeter or get to the foul line."

I'd be happy if he'd cut the turnovers a bit and finish at the hoop.

Doesn't really bother me he's not the greatest outside threat.

Re: Pererson gets in a dig at DG

About time someone calls him out. It's time to make a change at PG and see what Colvin can do. It's not like we have anything to lose at this point. DG is about as good as he's going to get at this point. If you haven't broke out by the middle of your junior year and basically been a starter most of your career you probably aren't going to be much better than you are now.

I won't call DG out but guard play is a problem relative to the other Big 12 teams. I think a front court of Ham, Brack, and Gilstrap is definitely above average.

Mmmm, the daily DG ripping thread is starting early today. I'd better get some more coffee.

I will say this. Garrett can sure get to the basket. Now scoring is another thing.

If ISU wants to succeed we have to have a PG that can penatrate and dish. We get none of this.

Re: Pererson gets in a dig at DG

It's interesting that he compares DG to Sherron Collins in reference to passing and shooting. DG has more assists than Collins, a better assist to turnover ratio than Collins and shoots the same percentage from three as Collins. I know Collins is better but his comparison is poor.

Re: Pererson gets in a dig at DG

IMO Ham, Gil, Brack & Dend are better than Big 12 ave. of other Big 12 team Bigs, on the otherhand our four guards would not be starters on any other Big 12 team excluding Colo. & Neb. Tfhe problem is that we have no consistent outside threat without the German. And he was too slow to play D. IMO Colvin is the only guard we have over time that could develop into a legit Big 12 threat. He needs to start getting the majority of guard minutes and it appears that McD is heading that way.

This is the exact reason why you have to look beyond stats when comparing people.

I don't think there is anyone on here who would put DG in the same league as Collins.

I'm starting to believe this, but I also think we need DG on the floor at the same time as Colvin.

I've become a fan of DG, CC, CB, MG, Ham

How many points did Jacy Holloway average a game? 2?

True, except Colorado has much better guard play than ISU.

I brought this stat out in a thread yesterday:

    Assists to turnovers for DG:
    Non-conference play 81 to 30 (2.70)
    Big 12 play: 41 to 30 (1.37)

DG's season ratio was the benefit of a nice non-conference start. He's been pretty mediocre in that stat in Big 12 play. One stat he'd probably lead the conference in though if they kept it is missed layups.
