    was looking on DM Register

and noticed that no schools have been cancelled tomorrow in the inflicted areas. Even the rural districts are only getting a two hour delay. I'm in Tucson now, but I've heard its dumped a lot as of late.

I'd say in the Clive area we've received 4-6 inches. I haven't measured it yet, or heard officially. I do know, however, that it is cold again! 5 degrees out right now, and the front of my legs are still cold from moving snow.

If the winds pick up as expected tonight and tomorrow, they will close.

6 inches here in Ankeny and it's still coming down. From watching the news tonight, most schools will do a 2 hour late start for the morning and around 5ish or so, transportation managers and superintendents will hit the rural roads to see what it's like. Winds aren't supposed to pick up until later tonight.

I wouldnt be surprised if they stay open. Right now, schools will be open in some areas as late as the 9th of June. Get too late into June, youre gonna see cancellations due to heat. Shortened spring breaks? Saturday schools? Longer school days? They gotta do something.

I wonder if the state at some point could offer some waivers. I know one year when we were doing a lot of classroom moving due to new schools, we got out of some snow days.

Des Moines Public is actually scheduled to the 16th of June right now, as reported in the CR Gazette. Schools won't stay open if it's dangerous to get the kids to school though just to avoid days on the end of the year.
I teach in the CR area and I know our admin won't make the call tonight no matter how bad it gets. I think they love having all the teachers get a call at 5:30 AM letting them know that they don't have to come in, knowing full well that this little wake up call will keep them up and they won't sleep in.

I'm thinking it will be bad, so I'm going to take my chances and just turn my phone off and sleep in as long as I feel... I hope this works out for me...

If it's bad enough they can't just stay open to avoid more makeup days...

Indianola is going to 30 minute longer days until May 19th to make up their missed days so far...schools can apply for a waiver...but its unlikely to be granted. My guess is that many will cancel in the morning...more snow, wind, cold...

Yeah, today was supposed to be the first longer day, and of course they were out at 1. Seems like a better solution than going until mid-June.

They had school here today, but closed at 1:30 about an hour after it got dont snowing. It was alot better out at 3:30 than 1:30.

That seems to be the best way to go. In 15 minutes earlier and out 15 minutes later. Ankeny is at 5 snow days and is looking at last day of June 3, which I know seems like nothing when compared to other school districts.

What ticks me off is that you know darn well that the final week of school will be "goof off mode" as neither the students or teachers will want to be in school. So in addition to all of the days missed due to weather, those final days will see little to no learning taking place.

It was the other way around for me in high school. I'd goof off the whole semester until the last week, then tried to cram for finals.
