    Danica

I see Danica has decided to jump into Nationwide racing sooner than scheduled and will run this weekend at Daytona. Thoughts? I think it is a pretty good story to follow her attempt to break into NASCAR.

I am just a casual NASCAR fan, but it seems like it will be good for the sport.

On a related note, was talking to a buddy about it today, and we chatted about Dale Earnheart (neither of us is a fan). My buddy's opinion is that Dale doesn't run some of the Nationwide events like Kyle Busch or Carl Edwards because he doesn't want the risk that he will routinely get beat at the minor league level also.

Since everyone hates Kyle, I am a fan. Dude is crazy running three races a weekend sometimes (truck, Nationwide, Sprint).

I love Kyle Busch. He is not afraid to say anything and he can win on anything with wheels.

I'm a Nascar fan, and a Danica Patrick fan, and look forward to the Nationwide race this weekend as well as the Daytona 500.
The Nationwide ratings will be huge - she is now the biggest name in racing.

    Re: Danica

Kyle Busch doenst like JR because of his following. Jr is always in a no win situation and has a lot of pressure on him. Last time I check JR did win 2 Nationwide titles. I say go for it Danica, lets see what you have.

I'm just now getting back into nascar after taking a long break and this was the first thing I thought as well. Danica will definitely make it interesting. Although my roots run deep with the Pettys I'm becoming a fan of Danica as well.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

    Re: Danica

I thought it was aways a chance that she would run the nationwise race it was just dependent on how she did in th Arca race and she finished 6th in that so it was pretty much a forgone conclussion she would race in the nationwise race

    Re: Danica

For someone who knows nothing about any type of racing, how big/difficult of a transition is this?

Is kyle busch the best flat out race car driver in NASCAR. I'd have to say yes, and I don't think there's a valid arguement against this! Is Kyle Busch also a giant tool who acts like a little ***** much of the time. Yes! which kinda makes it hard for me to root for him. I guess every sport needs someone to play "the villan" role though. If my guy's out, I can at least root for him to crash!!

open wheel to stock car is huge. it's like switching from Rugby to American Football. similar concepts, but it's a totally different game

Basically going from the who ever has the most money will usually have the best car and they put the best drivers in those cars. Now she is going to a race where everyone has basically the same car. Nascar shows who the better drivers are.

Got it. I figured that might be the case.

    Re: Danica

Unknowingly, I married a big NASCAR fan. I was in the group that equated NASCAR to a bunch of hillbilly drunks with serious redneck issues. This attitude persisted for 25 years until I went to a live NASCAR race w/wifey poo. Seeing it live is a whole different deal than on TV, it is awesome when you see 40 cars going 180mph 6inches apart. Those guys have skill & guts. Danica got her feet wet in the ARCA race and did quite well and now lets see what she can do on the NATIONWIDE race. I have seen her live in open wheel racing and I think she will do well. Actually, NASCAR is all about what team she races for. How many celebrities are recognized by only one name? Tiger, Magic, Peyton - Danica. She already has a lot going for her and this NASCAR move could be huge for her.

THIS!! you could talk all you want about how stupid it is to drive in a circle for four hours, but you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about till you go to a race. I dont follow IRL but I've been to the last 2 open wheel races at newton which I think are very exciting. not as much as NASCAR but I think that's just because I dont have a dog in the fight. If you have not been to a race live, even if you have only moderate interest in going, you're missing out! you will not be disappointed if you go!!
