    Well...

Saturday, for me at least, surprised me a bit. I had been thinking for a while that apathy was/had been settling in on me as far as the MBB Program is concerned, but Saturday morning prior to the game I felt the nerves and butterflies a bit and was pretty damn excited for tip-off.

It was a tough loss, and I'm sick of losing, but I'm proud of the way they played and I'm also relieved that apathy has not set in (on me at least) and hopefully will not ever do so. I love college basketball, it's my #1 favorite league/sport (followed by NCAAF and MLB), and I have a hard time imagining what I'd do in the winter months without it.

I don't think the program is as far down as many people believe. I'm NOT attempting to bring McDermott into this at all, just as an FYI. I just don't believe our program is that far removed/away from being an NCAA Tournament contender on a yearly (or every two years) basis again. The sanctions or whatever it was from Morgan's years have probably had an impact on things, but I do believe we're above that now and can finally begin to progress forward.

I don't know whether or not our current head coach is the man for the job ultimately, but I do know that I'll support him or whoever else takes the reigns in the future. I love ISU hoops and can't wait till we're playing meaningful games again in March, which isn't an "if" question, it's a "when". We have too good of a fanbase, homecourt venue, and facilites not to.

    Go State!

    For...?

I'm not advocating McDermott either way. I tried not to bring him into this, I'm honestly more against him and I am for him right now. Whether it seemed that way in my post or not, I don't know, but I guess that's what you get when you try to avoid the topic all-together.

I'm just saying, we'll be back. Whether it's sooner or later, we'll be back.

Not IMO but you will be looked at as a radical by a few.

The word "progress" is measured differently by different people.
I have a lady - looks to be mid 60's - sitting next to me in Section 134 who's always very positive at games. She's also keenly aware of all our players, our won-loss record, etc.
Nice lady, and she defines "progress" as a continued increase in the number of Big 12 wins as Mac instills his culture, his system. Since we went 4-12 last year, she said she expects at least 5 conf. wins this year, and more than that next year if Mac stays.
Sounds reasonable to me. Lots of fans are thinking like this...

So if we improve by 1 conference win per year we should be a contender in like,.........2017. Sounds reasonable.

    Re: Well...

Another thing I forgot to mention, I'm not excusing McDermott's lack of success at all here. I'm not blaming it on Morgan or anything of the sort, so I apologize if it sounded that way.

I think fresh blood (player-wise) will be a good thing for the program. We've had a lot of guys experience a lot of losing throughout their careers (Brackins, Garrett) and we are expecting them to be our leaders. If we can manage to get some winning experience for our younger guys (Colvin especially), I think it'd be huge going forward.

Mentality has a lot to do with success, and this current team's mentality has grown to expect losing.

    Re: Well...

Good post I think next years talent could be very good if the right players come back Ejim is a stud and so is Phillips. They may even upset some big 12 teams this year. And they are trying.

    Phillips
    Ejim
    Dendy
    Hamilton
    Boozer
    Colvin
    Garret
    Christopherson
    JVB
    Railey
    Palo
    Oliver

    Brakins= NBA
    Gillstrap ???

If those two go we will have the 2 schollies to fill and I would bet as well as GMAC has recruited the last couple years they prob have a couple just in case. That is not a horrible roster by any means. Hang in there clone fans if they change now half those players will transfer.

I think lots of posters on here want to keep Mac even if we finish 3-13 or 4-12. I don't.

I would agree. I also think conference strength from year to year should be taken into consideration and also how we are winning or losing. We haven't lost to a "terrible" team this year. In, fact you could maybe argue with the exception UNI that maybe the teams that beat us should have beaten us. I wouldn't srgue that but you could. I have blocked out a lot of last year it seems but it seems like we weren't very competitive at all in a lot of cases. That has been a little different this year. Yes, we have been blown out in a few games, but against Texas and today against KSU we didn't back down and we showed some fight. Like everyone has stated we are 10 mins away from possibly beating two top 15 teams along with a top 25 team in UNI and a pretty decent Northwestern team. I know it means nothing in the grand scope but I do think we are a better team than last year. I don't know if we will be better next year. I know that I hope so. I want Mac to be the guy to form this program into something very solid year in and year out. I like the guy a lot. He will be here next year. I hope it works.

Our loss to Texas was looked at as a big positive point of the season. "We came this close to beating the best team in the country!" Mac said. Texas was anything but, as I pointed out that night. Since our game, Texas has gone 1-4. In reality, they aren't even a top 15 team.
Just a few days ago, our team basically gave up at Baylor.
If you take a lot of stock from today, you should have no issue with predicting a win at Columbia. After all, they have already lost to A&M at home recently. The Tigers are very beatable.
