    Wine

So, I'm sitting here sipping on a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon and was wondering if we had any wine connoisseurs on this board?
Although I enjoy beer more, I don't mind having a glass of wine every now and again. Any of you guys have a favorite wine you like to drink?

It did for me the first few times I tried it, especially red wine, but after sipping on it more and more I started to aquire a taste for it.

Same here. The Merolot, Cabernet, Shiraz and mixes of those are all nice.

Some of the best wine I've ever had came out of Chile...

Any reds from Argentina, Chile, New Zealand or Australia. French and American Reds are awful. California and German whites are good as well.

Find yourself a nice Malbec and enjoy

I've been on a dessert wine kick lately. I'm a big fan of Moscato. Most iced wines are good too, good for my sweet tooth and they typically have a higher alcohol %.

    Re: Wine

I'm taking HRI 383 - Wine, Beer, and Spirits. It's primarily a wine course. I'm learning a lot, but it's really an uphill battle; it's tough for me to quantify differences between wines, and to describe them the way we're intended.

I generally like sweet or moderate whites, but while in Spain and France this summer I really started to develop a taste for moderate reds. I'm still learning. At this point I know a lot more about beer than I do wine, but I've been drinking beer quite a bit longer.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

    Re: Wine

I've always hated wine. No matter how fancy or expensive.

Last year...shortly after I hit 40...I tried some French Pinot Grigio
with my Chicken Alfredo and all of a sudden I got it.

Now I love certain wines with certain foods. Its really awesome. Dont
    rule it out.
This is coming from someone who drank nothing but Busch Light for
    15 years.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

I've had some nice Sonoma Valley reds from the US.

The white wines out of the Mosel river valley in Germany are awesome.

Oh don't worry too much about trying to pick up the little differences. As long as it tastes good to you, that's all that counts. You'll find over time you'll be able to distinquish a lot, by just tasting a lot...

Normally, I would agree. That's how I learned (and am still learning) beer. However, this is for a class- I do need to pick up the little differences. In fact, I will need to be able to try a wine and not only determine what grape it is made from, but also where that grape was grown, when it was likely harvested, and what type of container it was fermented in. It's not easy stuff.

I thought about taking that class, but heard it was rather difficult for the reason you just said, so went a different route.
I just wanted a class that was an easy A and you could drink free booze.

which Germans are you most fond of? Riesling I assume? Maybe Gewürztraminer? We tend to stick to the sweeter Germans. Have you found others?

You should also try Malvasia Dezzani (Don Bosco). It's a sparking red Italian, very similar to Moscato, but red.
