    Halftime vs. Final Record

I thought it would be an interesting stat to look at the games we've led at halftime in Big 12 play and our record since the 06-07 season.

    • In games we're winning at halftime, we are 8-11.
    • In games we're tied at halftime, we are 0-3
    • In games we're losing at halftime, we are 8-29

    Food for thought

the 13-0 runs for the other team at the beginning of the second half of every game doesnt help.

So whatever we do, dont tie it up at half. We're ****ed in that case.

These early first half runs are completely predictable and hard to watch. I know people love to rag on McD, but those runs show a complete lack of coaching.

    Re: Halftime vs. Final Record

I'm sick of this ********. Play a great first half, probably the most fun I've had in Hilton in a long time. Great energy from the team and thwarting off K-State to close the half as it looked like they'd go on a run and steal momentum.

And then we come out in the 2nd half like a bunch of moronic, soft wanna-be basketball players and not only give it all back - but dig ourselves a large deficit. Which is what we've generally been doing much of the season. Took a ton of early outside shots, didn't have the same hustle and turned the ball over like crazy (giving up 3 consecutive layups/dunks).

This team has the talent to play with almost anyone when they want to, but something happens at the half that is just mind numbing. I am exhausted with frustration for this team/program.

    Re: Halftime vs. Final Record

Serious question as I'm not great at basketball tactics - how is this necessarily the coaches fault? Could it have more to do with fatigue due to our 7 man team? Do our guys lack the mental toughness necessary to "get up" for the second half of a game at home where they're leading the #11 team by 4 points?

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.

Our guys get the same rest at the half as the other teams do. If our team was just getting whacked in the final 10 minutes, you'd have a point. But we've got to be one of the worst teams in the country when it comes to the first 5-10 minutes of the 2nd half.

Because that is your only chance during the course of a game to have adequate time to communicate in-game adjustments to your team. You could try to do it during time outs, but trying to fit in adjustments during a 2-3 minute time frame just doesn't work. Most coaches spend the beginning of halftime discussing what's working/what's not/what the other teams doing/ect. with the assitants and then communicate that to their team. It's also the best chance for the coach to light a fire under player's ***** that aren't playing well or doing as they are coached. None of this seems to get done.

I agree to an extent, but it seems to me that those first few minutes are done in by sloppy passes, and poor shot selection. KSU's run today had little to do with adjustments, and much more to do with very poor decision making by our guys.
