    Best food in Campustown?

So I was wondering, what do you guys think is the best food in campustown? Es Tas Tacos, Pizza Pit, Pita Pit, Jeffs, Jimmy Johns, Taco Bell, Superdog, The Gyro Cart and others... What is the best out there? My personal favorite is the Es Tas steak taco, but what do you think?

Battle's BBQ, if they're still there (haven't been in about a year).

For fast food type of stuff....Jeff's Pizza is actually pretty good pizza. I used to be partial to Pita Pita's (not Pita Pit) falafel too..that was good ****.

For real sit down food, Stomping Grounds definitely and Battle's BBQ was really good.

Cafe Beaudelaire has terrific food. We also like The Stomping Grounds in the summer when you can sit outside and Jimmy Johns. There are quite a few others in Campustown that I haven't tried.

Almost forgot, love Battle's BBQ too.

I can't believe I forgot about Pita Pita. That place is (was?) delicious. Is it still open?

Last time I was in Ames last..May, it was still open. I think it changed owners to a family friend but the owner had culinary school training and preserved their recipes or something.

I'm visiting Ames next month so I'll see if it's still open. Hopefully it is! It was the only good (was it the ONLY?) mid eastern/Mediterranean food in Ames I can remember.

Yeah, I almost take that for granted here in Chicago now, but for Ames it was awesome....definitely my favorite place to be at sunset on a Friday night when it was nice out in Ames for a drink while listening to live music.

    Re: Best food in Campustown?

Depends on what kind of food you want, and whether you care about caloric catastrophes or not. We like the Thai Kitchen because it has good Thai food at a reasonable price; for some reason, Thai food often costs more than other Asian foods, but this family-run place has reasonable prices. It is very informal and plainly decorated, if those things matter to you. If we want a pizza quickly delivered, we use the Pizza Pit. Almost everyone regardless of their age enjoys the Stomping Grounds, but as someone pointed out, it is at its best in the warm-weather months. But even in the winter, my wife and her friends go there three or more times a month for coffee and light fare. I enjoy their crepes for a light meal.

Forgot about them too...don't they own The Spice too? Good Thai food definitely agree with you there. I remember them not taking credit/check card though. Do they finally accept those now?

They take credit cards, or at least they did last spring when I went there.

To my knowledge, they do not accept anything but cash. I think the Spice is owned by another family, and it is quite a bit more costly. But if you want atmosphere, that is probably the better bet.

    First of all, 1000, finally...

Second of all, I'll have to go to thai kitchen after the game and check.

Used to be Little Taipei when it was upstairs...... Now I would vote for Es Tas......Maybe not the best menu, but for sure the best menu item in all of campustown. Their tacos are epic.

    Re: Best food in Campustown?

I loved Battles but have only eaten there once since the new management (The Gyron guy I think) has taken over. Was not very impressed but I'd like to here what experiences other people have had since the management change. Still better than any other BBQ place in Ames.
