    Possible Floyd Mattison News

The Brenham Banner-Press in Brenham, TX is reporting that 2010 Iowa State football signee Floyd Mattison has signed with Blinn CC.

This could be a double-sign type of deal.

This might be a stupid question, but what does it mean double-sign deal?

That sucks! He was supposed to be one of our better recruits. Now we will end up not getting him out of JuCo when/if he graduates.

Basically, he signs with ISU and if he qualifies, we take him. If he doesn't qualify, he is signed up to play for Blinn CC. Double sign.

Just wondering...about what percent of these "sign and place" players actually end up coming to Iowa State when their 2 years at Community College are up?

So this is new information? Just asking...sometimes ISU signs guys knowing they won't meet D1 admission standards.

As athletic as he is, I was surprised he hadn't gotten a fwe more offers. I wonder if other schools backed off due to grades. It stinks that this is the first we are hearing of this.

It means if you don't mean the NCAA qualifications standards you have a spot on the JC roster. In this case Blinn is the top JC program in the nation. Basically it allows you to have your bases covered. If you do you grades in you can enroll at the D1 schoo, if not, at the JC.

We haven't had much luck with double-signers in the past...

Not good historically but a lot of other schools have success doing this. I really think this staff is actively placing kids and is involved in these decisions. We also seem to have a good relationship with Blinn.

I am hoping this is a precautionary deal, not a needed deal.

I'm gonna guess, not so many. It is probably more likely with the ones placed at Iowa Jucos, but Blinn is one of the big JuCos in Texas. He will get a lot of looks if he does well there and graduates.

    FUDGE!

    (and I didn't say fudge)

True, when players didn't qualify for Mac, it usually seemed like it was a surprise. The current staff seems to be covering their bases better.

This has never been mentioned and I haven't ever heard mention of this about him. I don't know if that is good or bad. I want to say it is good because that may mean it is close and not a disaster academically. Maybe something he can take care of in a year. Also, if he goes there we can evaluate him at another level.
