    The Hurt Locker

Interested to see everyone's thoughts. I saw it, and it was really intense. More like a documentary than a story. Not sure if the guys who destroy/disarm IED's are all that "cowboy" about it, but who knows? It surely takes a unique person to do that job. Anyway, overall, I thought it was really good, and also apolitical, which was a plus.

    Re: The Hurt Locker

I thought it was a good movie, but I don't see what all the hype/reward is about. I've seen way better movies that had no pub.

Ditto. I thought the exact same thing when I saw it. There are way better war movies. One guy who gave me the movie to watch said it was the best war movie he'd ever seen. ummmm, not so much.

Thought the same thing, it was a good movie , but it got more hype than it was worth though.

Haven't seen Locker but watched In the Valley of Elah with Tommy Lee Jones. Very gut-wrenching movie on the effects of the Iraq War on the soldiers and their families.

    There was one?

    Re: The Hurt Locker

I really liked it, one of the first truly suspensful movies I've seen in a while. I think the reason it is getting so much pub is that it's probably the first movie that correctly captured the psychology of the iraq war (I'm assuming anyway, I'm not a soldier and never have been) and then also the great performance of Jeremy Renner. He played a pretty complex character that literally is addicted to war, so much so that he cannot cope with life outside the army.

    Re: The Hurt Locker

Agree with most here. Pretty solid - but not as good as I thought it would be.

But I had been anxious to see it for a long time, heard alot of stuff - so probably built it up too much.

I don't think anyone in this thread is saying they didn't like it. It was a good movie. We just don't understand the hype surrounding it. It was nominated for an academy award. It's just not academy award worthy, IMO. I mean, the Wrestler was a good movie too, but it wasn't nominated for an Academy Award and it was probably more nomination-worthy than this one.

It was intense. Jeremy Renner was near perfect in it.

For a minute there, I was thinking I might have said IUD in the original post, which would put an entirely different level of intensity to the movie

I thought In the Valley of Elah was gut wrenching, but too politically saturated for my tastes.

Not too different of subject matters really, one diffuses bombs on roadsides, the other diffuses uterus bombs.
