A little coolaid for our weary hearts.

I contend that maybe this team isn't underachieving. Look again at the RPI numbers I like to post. I know that RPI isn't the end all be all, but it does show some objective statistics that arn't all bad news.

In those numbers it shows there are still some questions to be answered. The schedule was a wierd one. We have yet to play someone ranked in the 40 - 60 range in the RPI. I believe that we've beaten everyone with an RPI of 17 or above on our home schedule and only have one loss to someone with an RPI ranking abouve 39 on our road schedule.

Some of our most vocal fans are jumping off the ledge, but there are still a lot of us that are hoping for more. Will we get it? I don't know, but I just wish the negativity for the home team would stop until after the season. Then for you haters and for our disgruntled side of the fanbase we'll have real answers. As for now, We don't have a very precise barometer. Please stand behind this team until we can make can/should make a change. There may come a time, but now is just detrimental to the entire baskeball program.

So should we be happy about the loss to Baylor last night because they were a good team?

I can take loses, but not in the fashion that ISU is losing them in.

I too am not happy with how we lost and I hope they pay for it, but you can't look past the quality of teams that we are losing to, they are damn good.

Re: A little coolaid for our weary hearts.

I was disappointed in the defensive effort toward the end of the game last night especially when Baylor went down and had three consecutive dunks in a row. However, for the most part I am willing to give the current players on our team a little bit of slack due to the amount of adversity they have had to deal with both on and off the court. We have lost 3 key contributors in Staiger, JVB, and the Booze Cruise. Chistopherson having a mono and Gilstrap's bad knee are also killers. Things will get just a little better this year but more so in years to come.

Re: A little coolaid for our weary hearts.

Dissapointments are based on expectations. Some people had too high of expectations.

Ive said it before, every great team has a great point guard. Kansas has Collins, Texas has the european looking guy, Kstate has Clemente, etc. Heck, even our team under Morgan had two great guards and avg big men and we made the tournament. PGs get shooters open looks, they get big men easy layups/dunks, they control the game.

Everyones expectations were based on Craig and Gilstrap tearing it up. Well, without a solid guard, they cant do nearly as much.

Those expectations were made worse by the fact Mac was talking this team up. He played a tougher preconference to help his tourny resume. Heft was talking this years team up at the end of last year. Pollard said it will take 3 years for Mac's system to fullly work. We were feed the Koolaid. There is no excuse for an ISU BB to miss the tourny for the 5th year.

Then Iowa State should trade places with UNI and join the Missouri Valley. The Big 12 won't be getting easier any time soon.

Re: A little coolaid for our weary hearts.

Watching the team last night it seems that they have the talent and ability to play with Baylor. The issue that I saw was that once they got tired, the passes weren't as crisp and they didn't execute very well. I would think that would have been helped with some subs, but I don't know. Baylor has so many athletes that it's a lot to ask of our bigs to play for the number of minutes they're going to have to. unfortunately, it's going to be that way for the rest of the season.

mikeiastat-I was saying the same things about supporting the team in Morgan's 3rd year, and I wonder how many that were ripping Morgan then are still defending Mac now, despite the fact that Mac has come nowhere near the accomplishments that Morgan had. It would be interesting to know.
