    Bonomolo on picking Auburn...

Defensive end Joel Bonomolo signed his letter of intent with the University of Auburn. Bonomolo was also listed on Rivals.com’s list of top 50 players in the country. Bonomolo finished the 2009 campaign with 13 tackles, five for losses, and three sacks.
“The main thing that made me choose Auburn was the opportunity,” Bonomolo said. “I expect to get there and make an impact like I did at Fullerton College. My main goal is to get to the NFL and I think that by going to Auburn I will have a good chance of doing that."

Weekly Hornet - National signing day at Fullerton College

I wish him luck with his choice, but with only two years to play, I question his logic of picking Auburn.

I don't like his decision but it's not like ISU has been pumping NFL players out either.

If you're good enough to play pro ball, it doesn't really matter where you go. If he's that good, he'd stand out at ISU. The reason ISU hasn't pumped a ton of players into the NFL is because we haven't had a ton of NFL talent here.

Funny how that works. It's a neverending cycle.

Hmmm. He wants to make an impact and doesn't choose ISU? Funny, I remember this dude who was a JUCO guy who also wanted to make an impact rigtht away so he chose ISU because he knew he would make an impact right away, get tons of PT and get noticed. His goal was the NFL too. His name was Tim Dobbins.

I hope Bonomolo enjoys getting buried in the Auburn depth chart.

I'm still not ruling out him being snubbed, similar to the Mike Marry situation last year. I'll be monitoring their scholarship situation closely.

Bonomolo would have been a HUGE difference maker on our defense. The dude is so quick to get into the backfield. Nelson is quick too, but I've heard he is small and I can't imagine us needing another small D-lineman.

Is he allowed to back out of his LOI if he gets Mike Marry-ed?

You want to make an impact so you sign with a school that signed 3 other DEs this class. Most of whom were more highly sought after than you. That makes sense.

Or you can sign with a school and be their superstar DE from the day you get to campus.

Once a school recruits over you during the recruiting process, why would you stay committed to that? It's very clear that they aren't committed to you.

These guys are clearly easily mislead by the Snake Oil.

I think they just legitimately think they're better than their rating and they'll beat out these guys for time.

How much do you want to bet that at least one of the HS DEs Auburn recruited this year will transfer because of lack of PT.

Can we get a CyBookie on that?

Yep, that is exactly right. I love competitiveness and confidence but some of these guys need to be realistic.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

    Re: Bonomolo on picking Auburn...

I was watching a show and some former NFL players were talking about recruits and this type of situation...they said most highly rated athletes think they can come into a program and be "the man"...some step up but most are in for a rude awakening.
