Biggest frustations from last years team..

After going to all of the home games and a couple on the road, I had a lot of frustrations last year that I hope change. Here is the top my list:
    1. Predictable play calling
    2. Not finding open receivers
    3. One yard running plays
I'm sure there are a lot more. I'd like to hear from our experts.

The one i keep remembering that i yelled my arse off about is WHY we had our corners off the LOS about 15 yards and cosistantly get burned because of it, yet nothing was done about it.

I dunno, it bothers me we play down to competition so much. Not sure if we purposely didn't open it up against UNI or UNLV, but from a talent standpoint and having home field advantage, those two games were a disgrace. Predictable play calling bothered me as well.

Barney Cotton didn't have a very big variety of plays...Stevie got one yard up the middle on first down...lets see if he can get a couple more on 2nd...

Ding, ding, ding. And we wonder why we couldn't stop an offense like the one Texas Tech runs.

**** poor tackling, which is caused by lack of discipline at coach's level. Then when they play off line 15 yards, hmmmm a quick pass works well, but we'll get more yardage cause ISU can't tackle....starts with coaching

Specifically, the straw that broke the camel's back for me last year was giving up that td pass to Nebraska right before half time. Inexplicable....it made me bitter towards the whole staff the rest of the year.

Re: Biggest frustations from last years team..

No offensive line. There were several threads with real hope that the offensive line would be good since it was described by previous coaches as doing good in preseason. People were very optimistic about them improving. I was doubtful simply same big and slow people that could not block the year before. Since the team was suppose to learn to tackle in high school, obviously the coaches thought the players were to learn how to block in high school, maybe even how to run plays. What in the world did they have to teach since they missed the basics. Not too sorry about this slight rant since I got ranted at this week at work. I probably deserved it also.

I was just as frustrated as everyone else with the lack of running consistency game in and game out. However, trying to run it up the middle early in the game should not be considered "predictable play calling" rather McCarney was establishing the run, where if successful the game plan could diversify from there(but we rarely got that far). It's a tough situation when your team has no running game because your not left with many alternatives. You could drop back and pass, but then the other team's blitzing. Bottom line (and I think everyone knows this) is our offensive line was unable to dominate the line of scrimmage, which made everything else go wrong. So to end this long winded comment, my gripe about last year was the o-line's inconsistent play.

    "lets run a qb draw, 2nd and 20... or 3 and 20"

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

That was the Jon Skladany special. Our teams have done that for YEARS. The only time in recent memory that I can recall him letting our guys play closer to the line was in the 2005 season when we had Hicks, Jackson, Paris and Moser back there. A great combo of players there. Even then, we still got dinked and dunked to the tune of around 400 passing yards against the Shuckers that year.

The excuse was always "we don't want to get burned deep." Tell ya what, I'd rather get shot in the head and get it over with than to slowly slit my wrists open to slowly bleed to death.

In practice we practiced/played a weak offense against a weak defense and then on game day, we were killed.

Worst from last year: the nornmal three playcalling scenario to a Brantley kick. And Bret getting tackled from behind.

Missed tackles, first and foremost. The fundamentals all around were the most frustrating.
