    OT: Diet or Regular Soda

I've recently made the switch (in the last 6 months) to diet soda...and I love it. Maybe it's just because I switched but I've noticed what I think to be more people drinking diet than regular soda. What does everyone else drink in general?

Also, I've been reading about diet soda and it's effects. I don't think there is a consensus as to its health effects. Is it bad for you? Not bad for you? It has 0 calories so it can't be terrible for you...it does have caffeine but so does coffee.

(P.S. I hate the word "pop", I think it sounds silly. )

Despite the zero calorie thing, diet is not all that great for you. Some studies have shown that diet soda actually makes you gain weight because the artificial sweeteners tend to make you hungrier. That being said, I am addicted to diet soda.

Re: OT: Diet or Regular Soda

I also have made the switch from regular to diet mountain dew. I used to hate it, but have since then grown to love it. No calories, no sugar...how do you beat that? Maybe with water I guess, but still Diet is the way to go.

To respond to your last part, I don't care if people call it soda or pop, as long as they don't call it coke. I live in Texas and it seems like everywhere in the south people call every kind of "soda-pop" coke. You'll see someone drinking a Sprite and say, "You want some of my coke?" Proving that people from up north are clearly smarter!

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

I've read that too. But the actual diet soda is not bad for you...it just makes you hungry.

If this is true, and I've heard it many times before, I am in big trouble, cause I buy Diet Mt. Dew like maybe someday it will become our currency.

I switched from regular to diet pop after college and immediately lost 10 pounds...now I can't stand regular pop. Of course I'm now addicted to diet...

Re: OT: Diet or Regular Soda

I've read a study that linked aspertane to harmfull effects. The catch was that you had to drink something like 800 can a day to get to the levels used in the study.

Re: OT: Diet or Regular Soda

I recently started a new weight training program with a trainer. When I told him that I switched to diet soda years ago he warned me to keep my intake down. He said that aspartme (sp?) in high doses becomes arsenic in your body. (!?!?!?!?) I don't know if he is right, but I am still drinking 2 to 3 cans a day. I have not noticed any additional cravings for sugar, but studies have found that it does.......

I should add that I now drink Splenda Kool-aid to get my sweet tooth drink fix.........not too bad

I've drank Diet Coke since I was 10 years old. Can't stand the feeling on my teeth now of regular soda!

Re: OT: Diet or Regular Soda

I grew up with a kidney condition that prevented me from drinking sugar as a fluid. The condition is gone, but I still don't like the taste of "regular" soda.
