What has happened to florida? They won TWO national titles in a row, and haven't stiffed the tournament since.

We need to win at least 19 to have a shot at the NIT. I think we are staying home again this year.

The NIT is much, MUCH harder to get into now.

I've wondered that, too. I don't get it.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

How so though? If traditional NCAA teams are ending up in the NIT doesn't that mean traditional NIT teams are ending up in the NCAA? Shouldn't it just be a wash?

Maybe it is harder for mediocre major conference teams to make the NIT because there is supposed to be more of a level choosing field.

Maybe, I'm far from an expert on what the NIT choosing criteria is.

I'm not sure exactly, but now since they do seedings and tried to legitimize the selection process, I think strong midmajors now have a better chance of getting in over a 14-13 BCS conference team.

Re: NIT field will never be stronger

NIT is owned by the NCAA and they pick by RPI and SOS just like the NCAA does. It is not a matter of finishing .500 overall and because you are a BCS school you get in.

We will not make the NIT with anything less than 7 conference wins and we might even need 8 or 9.

Probably need 10 to be NCAA worthy.

I believe they lost a lot of talent after their second title, and then Donovan left to spend a week as the coach of the Magic before coming back to UF. That uncertainty probably scared off some recruits.

They have done a little more than you suggest. They have been a bubble team for the NCAAs the last couple of years and probably much more deserving of a bid than many of the automatic bids from the various mid-major and lower conferences. Here is their record the last two years:

    2007–2008: 24–12 (8–8) NIT Semifinals
    2008–2009: 25–11 (9–7) NIT Quarterfinals

They supposedly have gotten decent recruiting classes, but I believe Donovan's short term move to the Magic has been used against him and Florida in the recruiting wars since he made the move and then came back to UF.

Look at those records the last two years and no NCAA...and some ISU fans still harbor thoughts of the NCAA!?!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Top level NCAA recruiting is cut throat as it is. Leave any little bit of bait there for the sharks to attack and they will.

All 3 of those teams will make the dance. UCONN has the 2nd hardest schedule in the country. North Carolina has a tough schedule and won't have to win more than 18-19 games to get in just on name alone. And Florida is 15-6, 4-3 in conference.

Re: NIT field will never be stronger

Isn't it the same number of teams in the NCAA and same number in the NIT as in the past, or did the NIT reduce their numbers since there is another lower tournament now? Seems like it would now be easier to get into post season play.
