Not sure I like this quote about Brackins...

"We owe him a lot more than he owes us."

    Thoughts?

Agreed, he didn't come back to have his butt kissed, he came back to get better and help the team, so far this year he hasn't looked better (yes, I know double-triple teams, etc) but it looks like the coaches are just babying him with a quote like that vs. challenging him, and his play reflects that coaching, just expecting it to happen vs. working to make it happen.

I agree with McDermott. Brackins risked his financial future in the NBA to come back to play at ISU another year.

It really depends on how that thought is placed into action (and I don't know that).

I think it could be persuavely argued that Craig would be best paid back by demanding as much from him as he did last year, if not more. I'm not one of those fans who pile on Craig, because I think he is a much more complete player this year, but I do think that he needs to put this team on his back, and let the other players be complementary to him, not the other way around.

McDermott is basically saying Craig made the worst decision by an ISU basketball player since Sam Mack walked into that BK. Craig can still have a long pro career though...

    Re: McDermott: Post Game Q&A

I did not like what I read in there at all.

First off, it is not your job GMac to kiss Brackins' rear end every single game because he choose to come back. It is your responsibility to coach him hard and make him the best he can possibly be. I still can't believe that GMac let Colvin come back into the game a few games ago because Brackins told him to. That is uncomprehensible to me. And then this quote from last night about Craig. I don't get his treatment of him at all?

And GMac comes off after nearly every game now blaming the players for everything. He's starting to sound like Alford. The turnovers were not an X's and O's thing according to GMac... they were just stupid plays made by our guys. That might be the case, but I'd like to see him take some blame some time. And the last turnover that could have cost us the game, was not GMac's fault either. It was DG's.

I don't know... I guess I'd just like to see GMac man up once in a while. He has thrown players under the bus too often. Take up your issues with the players individually, but not in front of the cameras. Take blame on yourself in front of the camera and take that pressure off the guys. Our guys play scared too much, and I wonder if it's because they don't want to be called out on camera after he game by their head coach?

+1. I was told the kids behind the counter said, "Hi Sam." when he walked in.

The best part was that Sam replied, "It's not me".

Not to be critcal after a win, but...

The answer Mac gave to this question is bogus, wow:

Did you suggest to Craig at halftime that he become more active?

GM: We always suggest that to Craig. I am not going to be critical of Craig Brackins because he, I go back again to that there are not many people in this room or that stadium that would have made the decision that he made. We owe him a lot more than he owes us.

First off we do not owe Craig Brackins a thing, we gave him an opportunity to go to school for FREE, just to play a game that he loves. MHO Mr. Brackins owe us way more than we owe him.

Second, wow Mac really? You aren't going to be critical of a player just because he decided to play for you instead of taking a chance at the NBA? That is not coaching and that statement is probably the reason Craig's stock has declined so much this year, you quit on him! You think Bobby Knight, Coach K, Roy Williams, would stop being critical of a player just because he is in a college uniform and not an NBA jersey? If you have a player playing for you it is your job to be critical and help him grow, not sit back and kiss his butt for not leaving.

Needless to say I am appalled by this remark, and I am sure you all will find a way to tear me apart and I am OK with that, this is why we have an opinion based message board.

Im no big mac supporter, but just because he's choosing not to be critical of him in front of the media doesnt mean he wasnt\wont in the locker room\in the game. We really can't know.

Jesus, we've come to a level of bashing that we need to breakdown everything he says. I understand people dont like Gmac, but some of this is ridicolous.
