More power to those who enjoy participating in the ride, but to the rest of us its a non-event. We have had it through our area several times, as has anybody else in Iowa, and it is a pain in the a**. As many groups lose money as make money and the locals are expected to prepare ahead and clean up after for not a hell of a lot of benefit imo for time spent. It is a unique event created by the media (DM Rag) and is what it is, a rolling good time party for a week which is OK.

I'm really excited. I drive for the Coe team, so I'm hoping it goes through Boone this year, so I can enjoy one night in my bed at home instead of tenting all week.

Look at my avatar. I imagine you can guess that I have an interest.

If you buck the town shut down times and some of the other foolishness that has been thrust upon the ride the last few years, you could probably increase the profit quite a bit...

If you just can't get enough and want to do some touring prior to RAGRBRAI I suggest you check out either Ride the Rockies or Bicycle Tour of Colorado.

alaskaguy...you ever done the ride to the top of Evans? If I ever move to CO, it'll be on my to-do list. Doubtful of my ability to do it w/ the altitude adjustment (as a visitor) though. Love driving west out of Denver and seeing guys huffin and puffin up towards Evans on their bikes.

No, I haven't. It is part of another bicycle touring ride in Colorado this year;the Colorado Rocky Mountain Bicycle Tour.

Even though I haven't ridden that route I did compete in a running race that started in Idaho Springs and finished at the top of Mt. Evans.

For the people that don't like a lot of hills, do those routes consist of any big hills/mountains???

I didn't expect so much negativity in this thread. Glad to see some other people are excited.

VeloClone I am jealous of your screen name and avatar.

Alaskaguy I signed up to the triple bypass this year have you ever done that or any of the passes on the route?
