I was Looking At Morgan's Last Season

It's a shame we finished with a mediocre record, because we could have ended up with a much better record than we really finished with.

    Ohio State, L 67-70
    Texas Tech L 73-76
    Texas A&M L 81-86
    Kansas State L 83-86
    Oklahoma L 82-83
    Colorado L 82-84

That's 6 losses where the margin of victory was 5 points or less (average for these games is 3 point loss)

If you want to count losses within 10 points because we all know when a game is close and you foul at the end, it skews a little bit:

    Fresno State L 77-84
    Kansas L 85-95
    Nebraska L 63-73
    Oklahoma State L 70-79

So 10 total games lost within 10 points or loss (average loss for these games is 5.4). What could have maybe been

do you remember that nebraska game at home? if you did, you would not put it on your list. That Maric (sp?) dude had like 40 against jiri and stinson went 3-24 from the field. that might be the worst home game ever.

Don't forget that this team was a pre-season top 25 team, and was supposed to be a dark horse Big XII title contender.

    Incredibly disappointing season.

OH yeah, I remember it...it sucked a lot...still managed to somehow keep it "manageable."

Yes, but USUALLY pre season "predictions" are completely wrong unless you're talking about obvious choices like a Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, etc. Analysts before the season starts know about as much as a fan who follows basketball a lot.

It was disappointing because we COULD have finished way better than we did, but failed to.

USUALLY is correct...classic example is UNC this year. I hate wherever Roy Williams goes. Used to hate kansas when he was there taking our players. Now i root for them when they dont play isu since its in the big 12 and i like self. Now that UNC got barnes im more than happy to see them struggle to make the tourney this year even though next year will be a different story

I didn't think we were spectacular in 2005-2006 but...

We were REALLY close to being undefeated....

Football != Basketball. Sorry, but it's MUCH easier to score in basketball than football. 3 points in Football is WAY different than 3 points in basketball. So much easier to get a 3 pointer in basketball than march down the field and get a FG.

You should do the opposite analysis and report how many WINS were within 5 points too. It goes both ways.

    True, okay:

    Northwestern State, 81-77 2OT
    Kansas State, 72-70

2 wins within 5 points, lol

Extending it to 10 or less is:
    Portland State, 72-64
    Northern Iowa, 68-61
    South Florida, 83-74
    Colorado State, 87-80
    Tenn. State, 59-51
    Missouri, 85-78

So 10 losses within 10 points, 8 wins within 10 points. God. Funny thing is that 3 of our wins that season were to NCAA Tournament teams..which is weird because that's more than McDermott has recorded in 3 seasons.

Really? You didn't think that team was good? By far the best defensive football team ISU probably has ever put on the field, and offensively ISU was great, just a little inconsistent.

South Dakota State last year was much worse.

If morgan could actually coach himself out of a paper bag, he'd maybe still be coach. But stinson and blalock were the coaches of the team.

His trapping zone D during his 2nd season was a thing of beauty. Morgan won 7 straight Big 12 games including at #2 Kansas and Texas with a 6-man rotation that included 2 freshman. Team started the year horribly though.

He wasn't a great coach but some on here rate him as much worse than he really was, based on how his teams played. All of his teams looked better coached than the current ISU basketball team. Morgan also won a regular season conference championship at his previous stop, something our current coach has not achieved.
