Too bad. It would have been nice to have Alford's recruits stay at Iowa. There would be 3 scholarships taken up.

He could be in some trouble already though if he tried to lure the one that has already signed. Once that letter is signed he's no longer a recruitable player until he's released from his commitment.

Wouldn't that be funny if Alford gets an NCAA violation before he even coaches a game at NM!

If he was still under contract with Iowa and he still has not signed one with New Mexico is it still illegal?

No matter what happened it's not illegal, just a NCAA rules violation. I doubt anything will come of it. Steve is a pompus *****, but I doubt he is dumb enough to do what he has done without being covered in some way.

How can Iowa fans complain about Alford when Brands brought three Va. Tech wrestlers to Iowa with him?

Where was the questioning of this practice from the Gazette and Maly, when Haluska tranferred to Iowa.

Seems a little l,ike "ok for us to do it to other schools, but not have it done to us."

That is, unless you believe that there were no converstations between Steve and Adam

Iowa is Iowa. When they win, the fans pretend its because of the fans. When they lose, the fingers are pointed. When they find something they don't like that they've actually done, the double standard comes out. Basically, Iowa is the closest thing to God.

Exactly, Virginia Tech accused Brands of doing this and it was VT being whiners. Now it's an unfair practice and the NCAA should look into it.

    Re: It's a Whine-fest in Hawkeyeland...Alfords...

Yes Brands lied to the media, and the kids. Yes Alford did something questionable in talking to Kelley about New Mexico. Yes, Iowa sucks, and their fans are arrogant a$$es. Yes, it is funny to watch them rally around Dana Altman after spending a week saying he wasn't good enough for them. Yes, it was funny watching them go to the Tennessee boards and announce that Pearl was theirs, only to get shot down. Yes, it was funny watching them miss the NIT in a rebuilding year after the coach had been there for 8 years (sounds eerily familiar).

Did I miss anything??? Alright now back to the normal "how good is the football team going to be threads," they are more interesting than this.

Aw, shoot, while we're showing the Hawks to be world class hypocrites with the Brands and VT thing, let's not forget that it was Gable that got NCAA- slapped for "misinterpreting" the recruiting rules for wrestling. I don't recall Hawk fans being terribly upset about that, either. The post about them thinking they are God is pretty much right on.

Is Gary Barta capable of hiring a great coach or is he another Steve Pederson of nebraska ( aka Houston McNutt et al before landing Callahan).
