    Turner Gill paid $2M ???

Looks like KU's AD opened checkbook pretty wide :Turner Gill's contract with Kansas Jayhawks for $2 million a year - ESPN

Not bad considering was was only making $265K at Buffalo : http://stories.icerocket.com/content...ching-salaries

I would have thought that Kansas could have gotten him for a lot less.

Hopefully he has a buyout that is too large to pay when he doesn't pan out as a coach in the Big 12... wait... where have I heard that one before?

Looks to be overpaid as of now, but if a couple years go by and he's winning, it will all look perfect.

That's an insane amount of money to pay for a HC with a losing record and at a "basketball school" to boot.

Turner has surrounded himself with some good assistants, wether they can win or not, that remains to be seen.

Wow...from $250,000 to $2mill. is crazy. KU has some deep pockets or have made a huge mistake.

Either that or some donor forked over big time to get a splashy name.

Re: Turner Gill paid $2M ???

If anybody had any doubt about the importance of Pollard improving our finances, this should settle it. Even if he has to step on some toes to do it, we need more money to compete in this conference. Kansas just hired a football coach for $2M per. This is the same Kansas that has been a basketball school since the creation of dirt. This is the same Kansas that has won like 3 bowl games in school history. This is the same Kansas that has a track around their football field. If we can't keep up with this kind of stuff, we will just fall farther and farther behind.

5th Highest paid coach in the Big 12, not too bad.

I think Hawkins has a contract similiar to that one with Colorado.

I have no problem with the way we have ours setup. I'd rather pay on the lower end for a coach to prove himself, and then bump up the salary, then pay them the big bucks right off the bat and have them fall on their face (and be stuck with them).

The reason we pay what we do is because that's all we CAN pay. Not because we can get away with it. ISU couldn't afford a $2M coach for FB without some serious budget gains.

Re: Turner Gill paid $2M ???

So his base salary is about $225K, but the balance of $1.7 is made up by TV and Radio ?#?@?

Is that normal? I realize those contracts are add-ons, but that much? That makes it seem a little more palatable. What is PR's TV / Radio deal?

" ....including $1.7 million for television, radio and other media responsibilities"

"We are first and foremost an educational institution that values integrity, honesty and treating others with fairness and respect".

Nicely done KU. You threw a drowning guy not only a life preserver, but a golden parachute as well.

A drowning guy, CyFever? Surely you jest.

    Let's look at the facts:

    1. In their first eight seasons of Division I-A football, Buffalo won a total of 8 games. In Gill's four seasons at Buffalo, they won a total of 20 games.
    2. In the history of their program, Buffalo had never played in a bowl game. Gill led Buffalo to a bowl game in 2008.
    3. Since joining Division I-A, Buffalo had never won a conference championship. Gill led Buffalo to a share of the MAC East championship in 2007 and to the outright MAC chamionship in 2008.
    4. Buffalo set a school scoring record in 2008.
    5. Gill was a two-time MAC Coach-of-the-Year.
    6. Gill was a finalist for the Paul Bear Bryant Award in 2008.

If you look at their 2009 season, in which they finished 5-7 overall, five of their seven losses were by 7-points or less. One of those losses was by one point, two were by three points, including one three point loss in overtime. With any luck, that 5-7 record could have been 7-5 or even 8-4 and possibly 9-3.

If Kansas didn't hire him, believe me, Gill would have been at a BCS school in a very short amount of time. He is tremendously respected in coaching circles.

Was Gill worth $2 million right out of the gate? I guess that is for someone else to decide. Was Gill a "drowning guy?" Not a chance!
