Who do you hope Iowa DOESN'T hire??

We know that they won't be hiring Pearl or Kruger based on what they are saying in the press. But what coach do you really not want to see going to Iowa? I personally hope Lowery from Southern Illinois doesn't go there. Those kids played very hard and I believe he would do a very good job of recruiting out of the midwest. It could be a huge raise for him so I am sure he would listen to them.

That's the first name that came to my mind when I read the title of the thread. Lowery will get his players to play defense no matter where he is.

As long as they continue this delightfully inept search and as long as Hawkeye egos get shattered in the process, it really doesn't matter a whole hell of a lot to me who is or isn't their coach.

I agree. I think Gillespie is along the same lines as Howland at UCLA. Their teams play great defense and give them a chance to win. Iowa has no shot at Gillespie! He'd be more apt to go to Kentucky or Michigan.

That's NOT going to happen. Rest assured.

Gillespie will not be going to Iowa. He has stated that he wants to stay at Texas A&M. I really doubt seeing him leave TAMU for Kentucky or Michigan, or anyone for that matter.

    Amen...

I think that it will be tough for them to get anyone with a descent reputation with the likes of the Kentucky, Michigan, and Arkansas jobs open. I'm sure all of them would have deeper pockets than the sqwaks.

I hear Wayne Morgan may be willing to listen...lol

I don't want EIU to hire any coach that will give them a winning record. I really enjoy their meltdowns

Re: Who do you hope Iowa DOESN'T hire??

Today's CR Gazette: Gregg McDermott quote: " I made a decision to come to Iowa State for all the right reasons. I've been welcomed here with open arms, and my family has quickly become a part of this community. Even if I WAS INTERESTED, it wouldn't be the right thing to do." What we have here is a man with integrity, principals, and common sense. He already has a job that is better than the one they are trying to fill in Iowa City, and he knows it.

Not a better basketball school & not a better situation as far as current players or recruits coming in. The only reason to make this jump would be $$$$$, and I think Gillespie is smart enough to look at the long-term career implications.

What he's done at TAMU should propel him into a big-time Bball program in the next few years instead of trying to build another inept program from scratch.

Well, he obviously would because his brother-in-law's second cousin's grandfather use to clean urinals at the Fieldhouse back in the day, duh!! It's all about the connections baby, I mean that's why Pearl had so much interest, right?? Oh, wait...

Has he actually made a statement recently suggesting that he's staying at A&M? Arkansas (as I understand) has already thrown an offer to their no. 1 target (which today they wouldn't say who it was but yesterday they said Gillespie was their no. 1 target )

Can't help but be amused by Arkansas Athletics...talk about a three ring circus lately in ALL sports....
