    Lake of the Ozarks

Our family is planning on a trip to Lake of the Ozarks in late June. We have three kids and are looking for a house/cabin to rent with a boat lift (VRBO.com). We are recent boat owners so are hoping to avoid the crazy/party places. I was trying to figure out which areas would be best to stay (Osage Beach, Camdenton, Horseshoebend, etc....) Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks for your help.

    Re: Lake of the Ozarks

I assume you have not been to the Lake before. We go yearly, for the past 30. Obviously we like the place. Looked to buy a place on the water, but finally came to the conclusion I did not want two homes to maintain! Anyway, from what you ask regarding a desire to stay away from the "party crowd"-the answer is avoid Osage Beach in general. The water gets really rough on week-ends from Horseshoe Bend down to the Dam. Camdenton is good. Get on the internet and search the RE agents. Call one of them and talk to a lady who has raised kids on the Lake, she will tell you the type of places you will like. I highly recommend the Lake, plenty of room for everybody and a ton of things to do for every type of entertainment desired.

Go during the week if you want to avoid the party crowd.

    Re: Lake of the Ozarks

Exactly, it is amazing how the water calms down during the week even during the peak July to early August season. Incidentally you mentioned your boat. If it is smaller than 26', you will really fight the heavy traffic on the Lake. 21' or shorter needs to stay in Iowa, unless you are young enough to hang on!

Depends when you are boating for boat size. Monday - Thursday you are good with pretty much whatever. Friday, Saturday, Sunday you want to be 22 or bigger.

check out rentals up river from tan-tar-a. we used to be on the point at MM 21 (crazy trying to get on and off the dock) and have moved locations up around Miller's Landing. still a lot of traffic on the weekends, but not as bad. within 15-20 minutes of fishing company, paradise, Captain Ron's and other good restaurants.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than selfish and worry about my liver."

down past mile mark 26 it gets pretty quiet. I think there should be some resorts near there. Plus Tan-tar-a always has some specials going on. Capt Rons has a beach in front of thats actually fenced off so kids can't go out too far. Lots of people from Iowa down there. Dog Days used to have a Iowa State flag haning in the bar.

    Re: Lake of the Ozarks

I was there in early June once trying to bass fish. Caught a ton of nice fish but it was the biggest circus I have ever seen in my life. And we were there purposely on a Tue, Wed, Thur. Weekends must be chaos x 10. I'd say take the other posters' advice and go up river (generally west, away from the dam). Unless you like lots of huge wakes from tuna boats.

Try going to Gravois Mills arm. It's a little bit quieter. We live on the 7 mile marker at Millstone. We moved down that way a few years ago from the 14 mile mark. Also the town of Laurie is more like a small town and not the crazyness of the other side.

I have two clients that own marina's there - and they're both big ISU fans. If you want any info, PM me.

Get ready to laugh at the people who go to Las Vegas. Ozarks rules. If you have a boat it's the best time you can have.

You will be good to go. Make sure you park at party cove. Don't expect to sleep much and get ready to take a day off when you get home. You will need recovery time. It's a blast.

    Re: Lake of the Ozarks

I've heard that the lake is really dirty. Someone mentioned beaches closed down last summer for E. coli levels. Any truth to this?
