Article on George Mason Seniors from Last Season

    http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news?s...yhoo&type=lgns

This article is a 4 part series (all 4 parts are already posted, just follow the link). I thought it was a really good read. It really shows the ugly side of college basketball. It shows that while coaches, schools, tv networks, and the NCAA are all making big time cash, the athletes that generate that revenue can struggle in the real world. In some ways, I think it is unfair to the kids that play the game. Yet, I also see that these althetes have access to free college education at some the finest universities in the US and don't really take advantage of their scholarships to prepare themselves for the real world. After 10 years, my wife and I still owe about $10,000 on our education. But we also live well because of our educations. I have trouble feeling sorry for those althetes that expect to go NBA and didn't do anything to try to earn a degree as a fall back.

Thanks for the link. A great read. It didn't say, but I'm guessing none of the three got their degrees. It's sad so many of the players coming out of D1 schools think they're ready for the NBA, and don't earn a degree to fall back on. I've always thought the athletic scholarships should include two additional years of tuition to encourage the athletes that won't go pro to finish their degrees after they're eligibility is up.

How many D1 one players come from schools or BB academies that never thought about them as students anyway. Both may me at fault, but look the enticement of "BMOC". Recent interview from a TExa A&M player, hell he took gardening, and other courses which ere lined up. This type of scholly offers place ISU behind the eight ball - integrity v athletes. With the Berryman issue on this third strike, I have had supports state "c'mon I just wanna win."

Well where does it start and end?

I think its a pretty common story. Heck, it might even be better for these guys than some others. A very interesting story about those that don't make the league.

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

Re: Article on George Mason Seniors from Last Season

One thing people don't realize is the amount of time college athletics take. Alot of people graduate college with a packed resume full of activites, jobs, internships, committees, etc. An athlete that truely dedicates himself to being the best possible preformer for his school normally has one thing on there, athlete... I know for myself and a number of my friends it was pretty difficult after school to find a decent job. Even though we all had degrees, we had yet to gain alot of the skills looked for my employers...
