    Mike Hlas on BBRE

Hlas was just on the Bob Bruce Radio Experience on WMT and was saying that we have more NBA talent than the entire big 10. He also thought our losing was due to two main players in gilstrap and brackins and not much backing them up and not enough depth to stick with teams and get guys rested. I think he is hitting the nail on the head with those comments.

Maybe right...maybe wrong. It is hard for me to really buy into a guy who sees Iowa State play like two times a year though. Not saying the guy is an idiot because he's not. He's very well-respected. He just isn't around Ames very much.

Iowa State has more NBA talent than the entire Big 10? What did I say would happen if we were in that league? Sign us up now Pollard.

Too bad "NBA talent" doesn't automatically mean "college basketball talent" and vice versa.

    Re: Mike Hlas on BBRE

If he said that he is completely wrong.

Hughes, Harris, Summers, Lucas, Turner, maybe Sims, the kid from PSU. I am sure it was an exageration but it was stupid to say since it so far from the truth. Right now we have 2 NBA guys and Brackins is falling.

    Re: Mike Hlas on BBRE

Hlas basically only sees Iowa play basketball.

So when he does get the rare chance to come over to Ames and he actually sees Brackins and Dendy throwing them down... and Gilstrap throwing them down over Aldrich... he's floored. Iowa can't do that kind of stuff.

So as far as pure athletes go, he doesn't see these kinds of athletes at Iowa right now. But I think Michigan St, Purdue, and Ohio St probably for sure have better NBA talent than we do.

Oh, and by the way, I'm not sure if I'd call Hlas either intelligent or well respected either?

    Re: Mike Hlas on BBRE

I tuned in right when they were talking about that. After I avoided driving in the ditch from shock that they were talking about Iowa State on WMT, I heard Hlas saying he was on some Web site that ranked players for the NBA draft and said Iowa State had as many players on the list there than the entire Big 10 (2 and 2). Brackins and Gilstrap for ISU, and he didn't name the two B10 players.

All I was thinking was, here we have two guys the "experts" are talking about as having a chance to play at the next level and we can only beat NDSU by two points. Pretty sad.

He also said he's seen them play in person four times this year.

He is not respected much in eastern iowa, the guy has been a tool for years!

Chris I have to disagree. Hawkeye Hlas is an idiot. Well respected by the same shills who cover EIU daily/monthly/yearly.

    And this!

Also, he states those things in a way so it's an insinuated insult -- "They have more NBA talent than any Big 10 team -- yet they are losing!"
