    Pre-Game Warm Ups: It matters!

I've seen every home game this year and the one thing I don't understand is our warm up behavior. Example: Versus KU...I saw several players shooting fade away three's, trying to do crazy dunks and during the lay-up drill...we had several up and under attempts that would fall no where near the hoop.

When I was in college, our coach would video tape the warm-ups and then review it with us. We would run because of missed lap-ups and other mishaps and crazy shots.

Point is: Warm up with a purpose. Practice the shots that you WILL take during the game. Once we knew someone was watching, our attention to details was much sharper and we were locked in from the get go.

Open shoot time was one thing, but I see this 10 min from tip-off.

    Can't hurt...

Maybe some free throw drills...? How bout the one where the team lines up around the lane and if the player shooting the free throw makes it, the team claps twice, if he misses, just once. Always liked that one.

I noticed the same thing, especially before the Duke game. One thing I really noticed last Saturday is that Hamilton was the only guy I saw shooting freethrows in warm-ups.

I think you make a valid point but you are a bit over the top.

Its called showing off, and lack of coaching authority to tell them to stop...McD wont say crap to the players because he is afraid he will hurt there feelings. I say do it and hand them a tissue

I will say, the thing KU does where they jump and then swoosh into each other is highly stupid.

I was watching the warm ups because someone brought up before on how unserious they were. I was watching KU as well. They seemed to be doing the same thing as us. I think it's called warm ups for a reason. It's not like they are all of a sudden gonna figure something out 10 minutes before a game.

But yes, I do agree that they could take it a little more seriously.

They had some nice drills they did though. ISU not so much. KU's seemed sharp and had a mission.

It's hard to say for sure...I'm sure plenty of teams have a casual warm-up and do fine. But were struggling here...something has to change.

FYI - This coach at one time worked under Tim Floyd, I'm pretty sure he got it from him.

I agree. Every coach I played for said, take shots you are going to take in the game. If you are a post guy 15ft and in.

I think its more of a mentality issue. Like I said, some teams can do this and be fine.
