Outside the men's room: Eternally optimistic

Here is my rundown for the week. One mistaken omission on my part was that I menat to shower Scott Christopherson with praise with the way he contained Sherron Collins on Saturday, excellent defensive performance.

As always, I enjoy your comments and give the trivia question a stab.

Re: Outside the men's room: Eternally optimistic

I remain optimistic as well. This team just needs a break to go their way. I realize good players make their own breaks. But how would a 2 game winning streak sound a week from now. We be looking at the Baylor game in a whole new light.

Long Conf season....a week and half can change a lot! Lets see what happens

Re: Outside the men's room: Eternally optimistic

I am glad someone has optimisim.

    I just don't see it.

The system is not working, players are not developing (when not leaving) and the excuse machine is in full swing by some fans.

I like Mac and I really hope he turns this season around.....but just do not see it.

Bear in mind that our 04-05 team started 0-5 in the Big 12 before they won 7 straight (including wins over 5 ranked teams) and finished 9-7. Yes, that team had Stinson, Blalock, Clark, Homan, and Staple, and yes that kind of miracle happens only very rarely. But it can happen.

I don't think anyone is making excuses. We all agree that this ultimately falls on Mac and he is not getting it done.

i'm not so sure at least some of the players haven't given up. I hate to say that, but man the effort and intensity looks poor at times.

I specifically remember Mac saying in the post game "We are not making any excuses. Nobody is going to feel sorry for us."

Unfortunately that team had something that is key to the college game that we just don't have right now: good physical guards. Stinson and Blalock would be a big step up from our guards, and Homan brings a big physical nasty to the paint that we just don't have, which would really help rebounding and taking pressure off Brackins. Brackins would start over Staple, and Gilstrap over Clark, but then the hustle and the D that Clark brought you could make the argument that he would be the first option.

I just don't see the pieces in place for this team like we had in 04-05. And it doesn't help us that the Big 12 seems to be as good as it ever has been. We have a league with 3 legit top 10 teams who account for 5 of our games, and a league that only lost 1 non-conference home game all season (and that loss was us). So that will make for 8 nasty road trips.

Nothing is impossible, and we have some talent on this squad, but there are a lot of factors out there right now that just aren't helping us out at all.
