    Contacting Football Recruiters

I normally do not post much and I apologize if there is an easy answer to my question. Could anyone shed some light on how to contact recruiters for football about a potental prospect? I seriously know of a kid I recently met from Denver, CO. He wants to either go to Colorado State or Iowa State due to their agricultural programs. He is at least 275lbs and 6'5. How he has gone under the radar for football is a total mystery to me. At the time we met, he had a letterman jacket on that claimed a state championship from one of his years playing. The kid told me that he probaly planned on going to CSU since it was closer to his parents and nothing really pushed him to ISU. I figured a football scholarship would sure help. He may not have the heart to play, but he sure as hell had the size. Someone should be contacting this kid. If you could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks everyone!

I'm not sure if this would work - but go to http://ph.iastate.edu/cgi-bin/phonebook and type in any of the coaches and just send them an email. I'm not sure how many actually read their emails...but it might be worth a shot.

I believe ISU has a Compliance Department, who you should probably contact first to make sure that no recuiting rules are broken. Then they might also be able to hook you up with the appropriate recruiting channel for whatever sport you want.

If you ever have a question about interacting with a recruit, these are two good places to start.

    Re: Contacting Football Recruiters

Any recruit can contact ISU and say they're interested in the school and the football program. ISU would then send them or their coach a packet of information. If there is mutual interest, I'm sure the conversations would continue.

A couple years ago I went to the Jacobson building to pass along a name and the secretary kind of ignored me. Even when I said the kid was 6' 5" 280. Then Tony Alford walked by and I talked to him about this kid. Tony could not have been nicer. This kid was in WA so they didn't even have him on the radar. He almost came to ISU but decided to go to UW.

I'm not sure how the new staff treats things, but stop by the Jacobson building and pass the information along personally. I would say that its better than a random phone call. Can't hurt

    Re: Contacting Football Recruiters

What happened to the "Recruit Me" link on Cyclones.com??

Wasn't there a link to a questionaire that potential recruits interested in ISU could fill out in hopes of being looked at by the coaches??

On Cyclones.com, you will see a link to a Directory. It gives the email addresses for each member of the coaching staff and the Director of Football Operations. You can email any of them and your information will be passed on to the right person. Thanks for your efforts.

Somewhat the same situation...I emailed Bill Fennelly a few weeks back about a 6'6'' high school girl and he emailed me back within the hour. They are always checking their email. Just be sure to include the high school's contact information and athletes name.

The ISU directory doesn't have Fennelly's, McDermott's, or Chizik's email. That's kind of odd.

Yeah, I got it off the Iowa State directory, not cyclones.com.

At first glance, that seems like a ridiculous thing to ask, but really, that is a great question. Anyone who supports ISU (i.e., student season ticket holders), who contact a recruit (by means of facebook?) could get in trouble. Very interesting.

    Re: Contacting Football Recruiters

I have forwarded two names to ISU in the past 15 years and found them to be quite appreciative.

We never got the two guys I sent to them (Terrance Morris as a HS sophomore...ended up at Maryland and DJ Augustin as a HS frosh...currently at Texas) but they were legitimate big time players and I tried to get ISU on them early.

When I made my contacts they did tell me that they get a ton of these sort of "heads up" calls on kids and that the vast majority are not Big 12 prospects.

Just because a guy is 6-5 and 280 doesn't mean he has the speed and athleticism to play football at the major college level. I would be shocked if a guy of this size that could actually play (had the speed and athleticism) would still be available.

Heck, my son's HS had the All-state FB this past year and I thought about calling Chizik and his staff up on the kid. However, after talking to our HS strength and conditioning coach I decided not to...just not enough speed for major college ball. This kid has ultimately decided to try to walk-on at Southern Miss.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
