No. 21 Cyclones Knock Off No. 20 Texas in Austin, 73-71

AUSTIN, Texas – The 21st-ranked Iowa State women’s basketball team came back from 14-down in the second half to knock off 20th-ranked Texas 73-71 in overtime Saturday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center. It was just ISU’s second win in Austin and the first since 2000.

Alison Lacey hit a three-pointer with a few seconds left on the clock to tie the game at 68-all and send the game into overtime. She got the first field goal of the extra period and Texas responded with a two-pointer by Erika Arriaran and a free throw to take a one-point advantage. Kelsey Bolte drained the winning three-pointer with just over a minute remaining and the Cyclone defense did the rest of the work to earn the win.

I got to say, it was a good win, but I really hate it when they play games with the titles. Those rankings are from two different polls, why can't they just say #21 ISU downed #23 Texas or ISU upset #20 Texas?

OMG. I had to attend the kids' basketball games today and was not concerned that I would miss seeing KU-ISU. But now I am bummed I didn't get a chance to follow this game. Awesome, awesome job ladies!!

I also posted this as a reply in the links posting but here is a story in the Austin Statesman about the game that is very interesting and enlightening. Really good even-handed coverage.

Rhoads probably has the locker room speech title, but, Fennelly does alright. I liked leaving the mistakes here and was impressed by talking about OU in the UT locker room. Normally he urges them to take time to enjoy the win. We're in for something special come Wednesday night.

“We’ve got a pretty good football conference, and we’ve got a pretty good conference overall. We’re still walking around with our heads held high and our chest out, about that.” Paul Rhoads

We should all turn our attention and attendance to this team perhaps. We'd sleep better

Congrats to the women on a nice win!

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

Anyone else read the comments to this story? The fans feel about the Texas women's coach as many ISU fans feel about GMac
