    GMac Contract

I can not find any details on DMac's cntract extension. I believe he initally received a 6 year contract which was then extended to additional 3 years.

Am I correct? Does anyone have a source to verify contract term?

    Thanks

Im just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard, Eustachy joked. If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, hell be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.

    Re: DMac Contract

I was under the impression that GMac's extension was actually a item negotiated into the original contract that had to do with losing scholarships due to the previous coach's players leaving. When they lost scholarships due to the transfers and players quitting, he had a couple of years tacked on.

    Re: DMac Contract

There was an article in the DM Register awhile back that summarized the contract extension.

In summary, Gmac received 3 additional years of extensions before had coached a game, brining his contract to a total of 9 years. The contract (unbelievably) included a clause where Gmac received a 1 year extension for any and each NCAA violation under the previous coaching staff. As hard as it is to believe, the contract did not distinguish between major and minor NCAA violations.

Gmac received a 1 year extension for the following:

1 year for losing 1 scholarship to APR in year 1 of Gmac's tenure.
1 year for losing 1 scholarship to APR in year 1 of Gmac's tenure.
1 year for Jiri sitting out 6 non-conf games for driving his foster parents car.

For a total of 3 years. Believe it or not, if say we had lost 4 scholarships in that first year to APR, Gmac would have received 2 more individual years of extensions.

Long story short, great work by Gmac's agent, terrible job by Pollard and whoever else reviews and writes contracts for Iowa State. Not distinguishing between major and minor NCAA violations and guaranteeing a 1-year extension for any and each individual violation is incompetent contract writing, to be kind.

Not accurate: Largest loss of scholarships possible under APR is 2

    Re: GMac Contract

I think Pollard did great - he had to find a way to get a new coach to agree to a low comp amount due to what we owed WM. He traded the lower salaray for more years, and probably figured that if GMac did a good job, he'd want him here longer anway.

Another thing, we've got a verbal already from the classes of 2011 and 2012 - a lot of teams do. So having a coach through 2015 isn't that crazy - T Ford at OSU signed a 10 year extension last year....

Good. The 2 year extension for losing two scholarships that wouldn't have been filled anyway for one year was certainly excessive, its good to know it couldn't have resulted in even more years for APR violations. It seems stange that anyone would believe that 6 years of time itself is not long enough to recover from one season with only 11 available scholarships. Great work by Gmac's agent.

KG, I remember something to the effect that we asked the NCAA to accellerate
the penalty because we didn't have enough bodies to fill the schollies that were
    available.

Gmac is one of the lowest paid coaches in the BCS - I'd argue his agent stinks! :)

I'd argue his agent is a magacian... I mean he gets his client an extension for showing nothing

With the benefit of hindsight, I don't see how anyone could come to the conclusion that "Pollard did great."

Compare GMACs wages with what Frank Martin receives and the term of Frank Martin's contract.

I believe that Frank Martin receives less and has a considerably shorter term contract.
