Griffin's Big 12 predictions for next decade

Big changes expected for Big 12 during upcoming decade - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

Not much to see here. I think he's been hitting the sauce a little bit, as some of this appears to be tongue-in-cheek mixed with actual predictions.

I really hope the Big 12/Pac-10 joint network gets some traction.

You know it's the offseason when he comes out with a quality piece of journalism like this...

If that happens I hope they call it the "Big-Pac Network"

That is a pretty pathetic article IMO. I guess I don't know what I expected but I was disappointed which is a pretty big achievement when I knew Griffin wrote it going in.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

Re: Griffin's Big 12 predictions for next decade

The only predictions I see as being "off the wall" are Pelini going to LSU and the "Kickoff Classic" and possibly Stoops going to Dallas as the rest of the predictions are pretty soild.

I read an article last week about the Big 10 looking to add 3 to the conference and the names being dropped were KU, Missouri, and Nebraska and if that would happen, the Big 12 would totally implode.

If the Big Ten does expand, it could do far worse than to present a new Husky image: Bill Livingston | Bill Livingston: Plain Dealer Sports Columnist - cleveland.com

The second plan to grow by three members starts with Missouri. If the Big Ten is going to go west, it would not gain that much from the addition of Missouri alone, in terms of markets. Illinois is already a presence in the St. Louis market, and the TV market in Kansas City in not big enough to be a deal-maker.

The Big Ten, however, would get a big push in national profile if, along with Missouri, it added Nebraska, which is almost back to being Nebraska in football, and Kansas, a premier basketball program.

The 14-member plan would constitute a raid on the Big 12 that would rival the Atlantic Coast Conference's strike on the Big East years ago. Adding Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska would make more geographic sense than Boston and Miami as ACC foes, anyway.

I would like to see a Big 12 and Pac-10 television network. It might open up recruiting in the California. I don't know about Bo Pelini leaving Nebraska for LSU it seems like a lateral move to me.

Only because Bo was DC there for 3 years, if Bo were to leave Nebraska for a "better job", it would be when Tressell decides to move on as Bo is from Ohio and tOSU is Bo's ala mater. Even then, I doubt that would happen as Bo's wife loves Lincoln and was quite PO'ed about having to leave following the 2003 season.

I think the thing about the Big12/pac10 playing each other in the non conference for some kind of series kinda like bball would be pretty sweet.

Re: Griffin's Big 12 predictions for next decade

No kidding, he's been drinking the sauce!

I don't see Missouri leaving. I'm sorry, but they have too much history with the Big 8 (Kansas, Nebraska, just to name a few). If a realignment does happen, it will likely be Oklahoma being sent to the North and not OkSt. Texas has a lot of influence and it will be in their interest to not be competing against OK for the South. Also they will use the excuse that it will reestablish a old rivalry with Nebraska and strengthen a weak North division.

I really hope he is right about the BigPac Network, that has some amazing potential. I think the change at Texas will happen similar to what he described, I also think that Stoops will move on but he won't be replaced by Houston's Coach.

The one about Nebraska is hilarious. I don't see why Bo will leave unless he is pushed out or maybe if he goes to the NFL. Otherwise I think he has it pretty good at Nebraska. Further I don't see Nebraska hiring Turner Gill. Gill would have to do to Kansas what Snyder did to Kansas St, only he will have to do it without recruiting as many Jucos. Going to a few bowls like McCarney did won't get him the job at Nebraska. If the job comes open at Nebraska, they either hire someone like Bo who had been a Coordinator at a top level and had ties to Nebraska, or they will hire someone how has a lesser team at a high level like Kelly did; they won't be satisfied with a coach that has his team at a mid level especially when that team has been to the BCS in the recent past.

I like the idea for the and one in the BCS. OkSt won't necessarily "fall by the way side", but I don't see them getting any better than they are right now and they will continue to have up and down seasons just like they did all this decade.

Re: Griffin's Big 12 predictions for next decade

What a piece of work! There is very little in this piece that has a stone's throw chance in you-know-where of coming to pass. Missouri to the Little-11? I highly doubt it. And his Big-12 realignment fairy tale? Fat chance. Bo Pelini to LSU? Don't count on it. Stoops to the Cowboys? I wouldn't bet the farm on it. I don't even think the ridiculous "plus one" idea has a chance of coming to pass.

This is simply terrible journalism. How can I get on ESPN's college football writers staff?
