Sounds like the Cubs will stay in Mesa for ST

Dave van Dyck reports on Chicago Breaking Sports:
The Cubs and the city of Mesa are close to a final agreement on a new Arizona spring-training home for the next 25 years that would include a new stadium, for which the Cubs would have naming rights.

The city sent a lengthy proposal to media and the city council is expected to approve its end of the deal Monday, with the Cubs' board of directors then reviewing it. That is expected to be a formality, as reported last weekend in the Tribune.

it's a good thing. florida already has the yankees. arizona needs the cubs, and the cubs have a huge fanbase in the area already. no reason to try to reinvent the wheel when the games are sold out as they are. now, with a new state of the art facility in the works, the cubs can make that next step toward becoming the best all around franchise in the league.

Good deal. One of these years I'd love to make it down there for spring training. Had some guys that did that for spring break once in college and they loved it.

Re: Sounds like the Cubs will stay in Mesa for ST

I was reading somewhere that even the White Sox were hoping the Cubs would stay due to the amount of money they make hosting Cubs-Sox spring training games. Even though they don't have a lot of games between the two clubs they always sell out and a normal spring training game does not. So the Cubs staying in Arizona is good for all of the teams in Arizona.
