Ranking the Big 12's programs of the decade

Okay, Griffin did this on his blog today and he has it:

    1. Oklahoma
    2. Texas
    3. Nebraska
    4. Texas Tech
    5. Kansas State
    6. Missouri
    7. Oklahoma State
    8. Colorado
    9. Texas A&M
    10. Kansas
    11. Iowa State
    12. Baylor

It seems about right, however I would be inclined to knock Kansas and OkSt down a few notches. Outside of the past few seasons they did nothing this decade and for Kansas, they really didn't do anything outside of one season. I would diffidently put Colorado ahead of OKST, at least Colorado went to the title game a few times.

I would assume so since Griffin only writes about football.

Fairly accurate, can't justify us being any higher. We had 6 bowl games in that span but we also had seasons of 2, 4, 2 and 3 wins. Feast or famine...but none of our "feasts" were that large.

Okay, but I think I would still move Colorado up a spot or two (until 2006 they played some good ball).

What if we were to throw basketball into the mix, what would you say now

    1. Texas
    2. Oklahoma
    3. Kansas State
    4. Missiouri
    5. Kansas
    6. Texas Tech
    7. Texas A&M
    8. Oklahoma State
    9. Nebraska
    10. Iowa State
    11. Colorado
    12. Baylor

I think you should just do a separate basketball one.

It would be interesting to see how the 2000-2009 decade compared to the 1990-1999 decade. Also, what will the 2010-2019 decade look like?? Maybe Iowa State can be in the top half of the conference?

Re: Ranking the Big 12's programs of the decade

Okay, how about this? Giving 1 point for Bowl/NCAA, 2 points for regular season conference title, 3 points for post season conference title, 4 points for national title. No points given for average # of wins or anything like that, after all, it is all about the accomplishments.

    Football
    1. Oklahoma (4x1)+(3x6)+(2x7)+(1x10)=46
    2. Texas (4x1)+(3x1)+(2x5)+(1x10)=27
    3. Nebraska (3x1)+(2x5)+(1x8)=21
    4. Colorado (3x1)+(2x4)+(1x5)=16
    5. Kansas State (3x1)+(2x3)+(1x6)=15
    6. Texas Tech (2x1)+(1x10)= 12
    7. Missouri (2x2)+(1x6)=10
    8. Iowa State (2x1)+(1x6)=8
    9. Oklahoma State (1x7)=7
    10. Texas A&M (1x7)=7
    11. Kansas (2x1)+(1x4)=6
    12. Baylor 0

    M Basketball
    1. Kansas (4x1)+(3x3)+(2x7)+(1x10)=37
    2. Oklahoma (3x3)+(2x1)+(1x9)=20
    3. Oklahoma St. (3x2)+(2x1)+(1x7)=15
    4. Texas (2x2)+(1x10)=14
    5. Iowa St (3x1)+(2x2)+(1x3)=12
    6. Missouri (3x1)+(1x5)=8
    7. A&M (1x4)=4
    8. Tech (1x2)=2
    9. Baylor (1x1)=1
    10. Colorado (1x1)=1
    11. Kansas St. (1x1)=1
    12. Nebraska 0

    W Basketball
    1. Oklahoma (3x4)+(2x6)+(1x10)=34
    2. Baylor (4x1)+(3x2)+(2x1)+(1x8)=20
    3. Iowa St (3x2)+(2x1)+(1x7)=15
    4. Texas (3x1)+(2x2)+(1x8)=15
    5. Kansas St. (2x2)+(1x6)=10
    6. Tech (2x1)+(1x6)=10
    7. A&M (3x1)+(2x1)+(1x4)=9
    8. Colorado (1x4)=4
    9. Missouri (1x3)=3
    10. Nebraska (1x2)=2
    11. Oklahoma St. (1x2)=2
    12. Kansas (1x1)=1

    Combined
    1. Oklahoma 46+20+34= 100
    2. Texas 27+14+15= 56
    3. Kansas 6+37+1= 44
    4. Iowa State 8+12+15= 35
    5. Kansas State 15+1+10= 26
    6. Oklahoma State 7+15+2= 24
    7. Texas Tech 12+2+10= 24
    8. Nebraska 21+0+2= 23
    9. Baylor 0+1+20= 21
    10. Colorado 16+1+4= 21
    11. Missouri 10+8+3= 21
    12. Texas A&M 7+4+9= 20

What I find interesting is that even if you take out WBB, we would still finish in 6th place.

Re: Ranking the Big 12's programs of the decade

Your systems values bowls as equal. KU won both the Orange and the Insight Bowl but I don't think most KU fans would compare the two. I would take that Orange Bowl victory over about 10 Insight Bowl victories. It also includes W basketball. If you are going to include non revenue sports why stop there? A true value system would have an NC worth about 5X a conference title and BCS Bowls would be worth 5X other bowls and Mens basketball and football would be the only sports that count.
