    Iowa and "creative logic"

i must admit I listened to M and M on the way home tonight to see what they were going to say about the job opening to the east, and they had a guy from the press in TN on. it was a very good segment-I didn't catch the guy's connection to TN, whether he is a beat writer or what, but he referred to all the rationalization behind Pearl coming to Iowa as "creative logic" or something like that. Basically he said you can make the past say whatever you want and make anybody a candidate for any job. My analogy is that when our FB job came open, why weren't Pete Carrill and Mack Brown candidates? They were both assistants here, and at least we know for a fact that Mack Brown loved Ames. The reason (and I will answer my own question) is that they, and Bruce Pearl, have moved beyond the jobs in question and established their own place elsewhere.

Go get Dana Altman, who is a safe pick and might even take the job. But move fast, and be careful before you offer, or pretty soon you're down to your third or fourth choice, and you're hiring your third assitant. Just ask BVDV

If some "connection" to EIU makes someone a candidate then Fred Hoiberg should be interviewed since he played them four times and now is assistant GM of the team that employs Ricky Davis. He is a shoe in.

Sorry to scare you like that but I was just trying to show how stupid the EIU logic really is. I don't think we ever have to worry about Hoiberg turning on ISU. He's too good a person to do that.

I have heard Altman's name a lot, but this guy makes 1 Million a year at a school that loves him if he makes the tourney every couple years. Would he be willing to go to EIU and leave that behind?

    Re: Iowa and "creative logic"

They need to move fast on Altman is the word. Sources around Altman have said in the past he does not want to be part of a big search that takes awhile and gets a lot of media attention. He wants to the the 1st guy they go after and be short and sweet with the courting. Give him an offer to take or leave and that's it.

Time is ticking on that to happen, I think that every day that goes by it will become less likely that Altman would take the job.
