    Cooking Steak without a Grill

So I have a serious craving for steaks, and the wife and I have a couple of New York Strips...but (as you might have noticed) there is an inch of ince covering everything outside, and grilling them is not an option. Does anyone have a good method for cooking steaks inside (and we don't have one of those grill top skillet things)?

Sear both sides on a pan then put in the oven until cooked to desired level. Keeps it pretty juicy in my experience.

Re: Cooking Steak without a Grill

Cast Iron skillet... Set the stove on high and the oven on broil... Coat with salt and pepper, cook each side for 45 seconds on the stove, pressing down on it with a spatula, then place under the broiler for 3 minutes a side... Almost better than the grill.

Grill pan - if you have one (the pan with the grooves on the surface)

Ah a perfected method of what I was talking about. I will write this down.

Re: Cooking Steak without a Grill

When I do patio or flank steak I normally set the oven at 350 after coating them with either
    1. Salt/Pepper/Rosemary
    2. Salt/peper/Italian seasoning mix I found

I then cook them on a broiler pan with a little water in the bottom till they are MW.

Thanks for the help. A steak, busch light and a cyclone win would be just about right...

I've never used a cast iron skillet....are they really worth it vs a non stick skillet?

I prefer cast iron for alot of things, especially this so you can just keep it in the same pan.

Don't forget the side dishes too....(maybe I'm just hungry thinking about it)

I love doing potatoes cut up in the oven with salt/pepper & a little olive oil

Cast iron rules. I love my cast-iron wok, it is great for stir-fry and I am looking to start using it for more.
