The Mayor. He has, and does, represent ISU in a way that I want it represented.

Busch was a stud, I still have his autograph from a spring game when I was probably like 6 or 7. That always made him a favorite of mine. Good TE but went on to pursue baseball, seems like the Dodgers organization right?

This topic always raises the question of how we are defining "athlete." Is it the person that excels the most in their individual sport or is it the most athletic person to ever suit up for ISU in any sport? Bo Jackson may not have been the very best at either of his sports, but he was probably the best physical specimen to play both.

If it's achievment in individual sport, I'd say Sanderson or maybe Troy Davis. Both accomplished things in their sport that have never been done before, or since.

If it's physical athleticism, then Busch and Thompson would probably get my vote as well. I think Hoiberg could have had a lot of success in multiple sports as well had he chosen to pursue that.

Its hard to argue with Freddie but I think the discussion begins and ends with "The Roland Rocket" Gary Thompson, small town kid, 2 sport athlete and a lifelong Cyclone.

    Re: Great Cyclone Athletes

Here's a vote for Danny Harris, 400m hurdles. He had a rough life after athletics but was the only person to beat the "unbeatable".

Would have to say Cael and it isn't even close. What he did in his sport is simply astounding.

    Re: Great Cyclone Athletes

Toss up between "The Mayor" or "The Roland Rocket". These two athletes have represented ISU in the best way even when their careers of playing were long over.
