    Streaming Video/Movies

I recently bought a Samsung Blu-Ray DVD player which has the capability to stream Netflix/Blockbuster movies. I bought the ethernet version instead of the wireless. If anyone does this what is the quality of video (720p/1080p/HD) and is the audio received in 5.1? I am looking into joining Netflix but want to take advantage of the streaming if the video/audio are HD/5.1.

It's roughly DVD quality. Nobody is streaming in HD just yet.

Unlikely that the audio is 5.1 either, but I don't know that for sure. My guess is that it's MP3 or MP4. 5.1 takes up wayyy too much bandwidth to make it useful for streaming.

I have a Marantz A/V receiver and want to know if the audio will be surround. I have a MP3 player but not sure what receiving a MP3 or MP4 signal is?

The quality of the picture is also dependent on the speed of your internet.

The HD streams on Netflix are 720p I believe.

5.1 only refers to a system with 6 speakers. It doesn't really have anything to do with the type of audio being delivered to the system.

From some quick research, it appears that netflix only streams in stereo WMA.

That means you aren't going to get true surround sound with 6 discrete channels, only 2.

Actually, the AppleTV has streamed movies at 720p with 5.1 for quite some time now. (2+ years?)

There is plenty of HD streaming available. If you have an Xbox360, you can stream instant on (no buffering) 1080p from the Zune Marketplace.

Does anyone own a Roku for streaming Netflix? Not bad for another TV upstairs.

Netflix on the 360 has done HD streaming for about a year or so, too.
