Bracketology update - ISU 8 seed

But ouch, look who we would get in round 2, but ISU in Ames is probably not something Geno wants to see.

That would be a tall order, even in Ames. Of course I wasn't really expecting a sweet sixteen run with this young of a team anyway.

Collegerpi.com doesn't have the Sisters in at all in the first bracket (before KU). Our standing will improve as our rpi climbs through the conference season. If we're .500 in the conference a "top 32" finish is about right.

So does the lowest qualifying first round host generally get the number 1 seed? Arizona St, Minnesota? Washington and Old Dominion look unlikely to qualify, under .500, and Pittsburgh is 0-5 in Big East.. Good motivation to get and stay in the top 25 though!

Re: Bracketology update - ISU 8 seed

If we could avoid playing a 1 or 2 in Ames, we have a shot to go one to the next week. But, in the pre-early season just making it to Ames was the goal and making it to the second round would be a successful season considering our youth. There are a lot of tough games ahead.

I wouldn't mind that even though it would be tough. Would be a fun matchup. Of course a higher seed and easier advancement would be nice. :)

I can almost guarantee you that a #1 UConn team will not be coming to Ames to play Iowa State. That is one environment they won't send them too.

Re: Bracketology update - ISU 8 seed

UConn will play in the East regional since they will be the overall # 1, meaning they will have to go to Dayton or Memphis since those are the closest to them. It would be my guess Ames will feed the regional in Kansas City, and if a Big 12 team pulls down a # 1 seed they will be in KC. If Tennessee is a # 1 seed, they will go to Memphis, and Stanford will go to Sacremento. We will be in the Midwest would be my guess because the NCAA made all the changes to get attendance back up in the sub regional and regional sites.

The whole Dayton / Memphis sites are strange, since you don't have a true East Coast site, like you have in the past.

Re: Bracketology update - ISU 8 seed

Sisters' RPI took a huge leap with the road win over the Horns - up to 33 at collegerpi. The next brackets, Palm and Creme, will look different than the last. We can now dream of an OU win and a 6-7 seed which could get us to week two. Amazing considering the "realistic" expectations at the start of the season.

There's a long way to go. I just hope the Ladies could continue to play better and better. With such a young team like this, going to NCAA would be nice.

In the women's NCAA I don't think that the first round site determines your regional site. UCONN could still come to Ames and be in the East region. Of the 8 teams that go to each location, not all four teams have to be in the same region. So the two teams that come out of the location wouldn't necessarily have to play each other in the next round like the men's tourney.

No, there are only four teams at each site, a total of 16 first/second round sites.
Only one team advances from each site.

Re: Bracketology update - ISU 8 seed

I'm guessing UConn will end up in Pittsburgh or Norfolk. The whole point of them going back to 16 sites was to get more attendance during the first and second rounds. To do this, they had to go back to the sub-regionals (4 teams per site), and put teams closer to home. The problem they are still running into is, some of the sites were already determined when they made the change, so they had to honor the commitment to the site. It appears like this is the last year the old commitments are in place, so next year it will go back to the old format where the top four seeds in each region host a subregional.
